I wrote a very polite, completely reasonable open letter to Patrick Rothfuss about finishing The Kingkiller Chronicle… or at least signing my many copies. Full letter below ⬇️📚✨ Dear Patrick Rothfuss, Hi! It’s me—one of your readers. The kind who doesn’t just own The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man’s Fear, but owns them in multiples, like I’m preparing for a Temerant-based apocalypse. I love your writing. Truly. The prose, the music, the heartbreak. I have reread these books so many times I’m starting to suspect I’ve memorized the Name of Patience. (It has not helped.) Which brings me, gently, respectfully, and with a smile, to The Doors of Stone. I understand that stories take time, and that art can’t be rushed. I do. I really do. But it has been long enough that the book now feels less like a forthcoming novel and more like a beautifully written legend we tell new fantasy readers so they don’t lose hope too early. So I humbly ask: If the trilogy can’t be finished soon… could you at least sign my copies? I have several. Enough that one signature might calm me emotionally for at least a year. No pressure. No ultimatums. Just a devoted fan, a very full bookshelf, and a completely reasonable amount of longing for narrative closure. With admiration, patience, and an alarming number of duplicate editions, A faithful Kingkiller reader P.S. I will still instantly buy The Doors of Stone the moment it exists. This is not a threat.
