here’s how i learned how to code 👩🏻💻👐🏼 even though this process can really be applied to learning anything new. at the start of the semester, i told myself i wanted to at least understand basic programming. you don’t need to know coding in biotech but i thought it’d be a useful skill to have to expand with. i’m still a beginner but now i can actually read code (on a basic level), use functions, and write simple programs. with the help of ai, there’s so much potential for coding beyond that. the best day to start was yesterday so start now ✨

How I learned how to code during my fully computational PhD ✨👩🏽💻💭 I didn’t learn how to code during school, my BSc physics with medical physics and bioengineering or my MSc medical physics.. ..(in fact I truly did NOT like coding, I was doing all I could to make a run from it 🏃🏽♀️💨) But when I started my fully computational PhD (bioinformatics and computational biology) in cancer research I had no choice but to learn. I taught myself how to code using loads of different resources but here are two: 🔹YouTube channels that focused on the fundamentals, proving clear examples and explanations to help a true beginner learn how to code 🔹Coding books (esp when I needed I break from the screen) - I read a lot of programming books with emphasis on real world data as this was essential for my PhD ☁️ how did you learn how to code & what programming languages are you learning?

Put a finger down if.. you learned how to code from one of these legends👌🏽 This was one of the ways I learned how to code during my undergraduate degree👩🏽💻 (even to this day I refer back to these) During my undergraduate degree in Physics with Medical Physics and Bioengineering I had a coding in MATLAB module that I didn’t understand at all😭 I really disliked coding (after the module I promised myself I wouldn’t code again) - simply cause i had no idea what was going on!! Thanks to Narish i technologies I genuinely got a 1:1 in my coding module (& a 1:1 overall in my BSc ayy 🎉) .. this channel genuinely helped me so much !! I remember one time I was translating from Hindi to English to try complete an assignment. Fast forward to years later I thought myself to code in: 🔹 R 🔹 MATLAB 🔹 Python 🔹 Learning Linux/Bash Now that I work as a technology research associate principle (bioinformatician) I code most days using the above languages.. so I’m still learning to date 🙌🏽 Apart from Narish i technologies, Mike Dane (Giraffe Academy) and Prof David J. Malan (Harvard University) have helped me develop my coding skills massively 🥲 #coding #codinglife #learntocode #programming #tech #womenintech #womenintechnology #girlswhocode
