How can India build the state capacity required to deliver equitable healthcare? Dr. Srinath addresses this question with clarity and nuance. He underscores that while the state must remain the guarantor of healthcare systems, it cannot—and should not—be the sole actor responsible for delivering them. The private sector plays a crucial role, bringing with it rapid turnaround times, advanced technologies, and strong capabilities in research and development. These strengths are vital for improving the quality and reach of healthcare services. But the ecosystem does not end there. Citizens’ organisations, particularly nonprofits, provide an indispensable last-mile connection to public health systems. Deeply embedded within communities, they possess a nuanced understanding of local health challenges as well as the social attitudes and beliefs that shape behaviour. These organisations can strengthen the capacity of frontline workers, conduct health camps and awareness drives, support healthcare professionals in designing effective interventions, and reconnect communities with formal health systems through informed, context-specific recommendations. Together, the state, private sector, and citizen-led organisations form a complementary triad: one that is essential for building a resilient, equitable healthcare system in India Watch the full episode with Rathish Balakrishnan and Dr Srinath as they dive into health equity and the role of technology in making it possible in India. India’s healthcare system is often debated — but what do the numbers actually say? As per Government of India data, India’s overall doctor–population ratio stands at approximately 1:811, which is better than the WHO’s recommended norm of 1:1000. But when we look at state-wise data, the picture becomes even more interesting. 🏆 Top 5 States with Best Doctor–Patient Ratio (People per doctor — lower is better) 1. Goa – ~353 people per doctor 2. Karnataka – ~457 people per doctor 3. Andhra Pradesh – ~488 people per doctor 4. Tamil Nadu – ~495 people per doctor 5. Kerala – ~509 people per doctor What stands out? 👉 4 out of the top 5 states are from South India. This raises a bigger question: Why do South Indian states consistently rank higher in: • Public healthcare systems • Literacy rates • Human Development Index • Social development indicators • Public health infrastructure Is it better governance? Higher health spending? Stronger primary healthcare networks? Policy continuity? I break down the data in this video — and I want to hear from you. 💬 Why do you think South Indian states consistently perform better in healthcare and social indicators? Comment your thoughts below. At the Health of India Summit 2026, Amir Ullah Khan, Member of the Telangana Public Service Commission and Visiting Professor at ISB, shared a powerful perspective on strengthening India’s healthcare ecosystem. He emphasized that India does not need to reinvent the wheel. Instead, we must integrate the policies, laws, and guidelines already in place, align them with global best practices, and contextualize them within our diverse healthcare system. Bringing these elements together into a cohesive and well-coordinated framework, he noted, is key to delivering high-quality healthcare to the last mile. A timely reminder that systemic reform, thoughtful integration, and inclusive policy design are essential to building a stronger health future for India. #HealthOfIndiaSummit #HOI26 #HealthcarePolicy #LastMileDelivery #PublicHealthIndia @ayushmannha | @minstry_of_health | @goi_meity | @firstcheck_in @narendramodi | @ashwini.vaishnaw | @jitinprasada | @pibindia | @officialindiaai @nihfw_india | @globalhealthstrategies | @dw_hindi | @wadhwanifoundation | @samsungindia | @bmj_company | @socio.script | @pibindia | @healthcare_sector_council | @tiedelhi.ncr | @onlyearth

India's much-celebrated 2026-27 budget reveals a devastating failure by prioritizing expensive tertiary hospitals over the fundamental need for robust primary healthcare. While the government speaks of inclusive growth, this decision directly undermines the health of millions, particularly women and children in rural and marginalized communities. It is a betrayal of the very principle of 'health for all' and a dangerous gamble with the nation's future, favoring flashy infrastructure over the preventive care that truly saves lives. This is not development; it is a profound misallocation of resources that will deepen health inequities and weaken the entire public health system from its core. #IndiaBudget2026 #PrimaryHealthcareCrisis #HealthBudget #PublicHealth #HealthcareForAll #TertiaryCare #HealthInequity #WomensHealth #ChildHealth #RuralHealth #HealthPolicy #SocialJustice #GovernmentFailure #HealthInfrastructure #PreventiveCare #GlobalSouth #DevelopingNations #HealthSystems #BudgetAnalysis #PolicyFail #NirmalaSitharaman #FinanceMinister #IndianEconomy #SocialDevelopment #HealthForAll
