Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in India are generally established to cover a population of 30,000 in rural areas and 20,000 in hilly, tribal, or desert areas. National Health Mission . Key Details Regarding Health Ratios and Coverage: Rural Norms: 1 PHC per 30,000 population (1 Sub-Centre per 5,000 in plains; 1 per 3,000 in hilly). Urban Norms (UPHC): 1 Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) generally covers a population of 50,000. Ayushman Bharat Vision: The government initiated a plan to upgrade 150,000 existing Sub-Centres and PHCs into Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) by December 2022 to improve primary care access. Infrastructure: A typical PHC acts as a referral unit for 6 sub-centres and includes a medical officer, pharmacist, and nurse.

A PROMISE TAKING SHAPE: LEKKI’S NEW PHC NEARS COMPLETION Not long ago, I conducted an on-site inspection of the ongoing Primary Health Centre project in Lekki, a facility envisioned to stand as one of the most comprehensive and modern PHCs in the country. Today, I am pleased to note that what once existed only as a vision on paper is fast becoming a defining symbol of progress for our people. With structural works largely completed, the project has advanced into the interior finishing phase. Contractors are working diligently to ensure delivery of a facility that reflects quality, purpose, and functionality. From design to execution, every detail has been guided by a clear priority, providing accessible, dignified, and high-standard healthcare for residents of Lekki LCDA. This project goes beyond the construction of a building. It represents a commitment fulfilled, a healthcare system strengthened, and a future better prepared for our growing population. As work progresses steadily, anticipation continues to build within the community. Upon completion, this Primary Health Centre will not only serve Lekki residents, it will set a new standard for primary healthcare delivery at the grassroots. The finish line is now clearly in sight.
