You can pretty much do anything to warm up your voice - but the most important thing is that you’re warming up your voice! If you’re not feeling creative or motivated to make your own warm up, here is one that I use. I mix and match my favourite exercises to help me lock in for the day. The majority of my exercises are given to me by my teacher Lena. She listens for the long-term plan that she has for my voice. I do the same for my students. In building a warm up it’s not necessarily the exact exercises that will change your voice, it’s HOW you do the exercises where you will see the most growth. This is what your vocal cords look like when you sing. Pretty amazing, isn’t it? The vocal folds, also known as vocal cords, are located within the larynx at the top of the trachea. They are open during inhalation and come together to close during swallowing and phonation. When closed, the vocal folds may vibrate and modulate the expelled airflow from the lungs to produce speech and singing. The perceived pitch of a person’s voice is determined by a number of different factors such as length, size, and tension of the vocal folds. I believe that, now with fry screaming in the toolbox, he has been spared the torment that nearly ended his career in Europe in 2018 and everything is just plain easier. That doesn’t mean he does fry screaming all the time!   Fry screaming is NOT the only “right way to scream”! There is no ‘right way’, only wrong ways. And the wrong ways eventually lead to injury. “Fry screaming” is NOT “vocal fry” There are some similarities, however the experience of fry screaming is so vastly different, it is not helpful comparing it to vocal fry. Learning fry screaming opens a whole new world of resonance and effortless power and improves ALL the other kinds of screaming that involve greater throat constriction. Ask Garrett or ask @jesse_d_leach of @killswitchengage and they are sure to agree that fry screaming awareness proved to be a game changer.   Fry screaming has flow phonation mechanics like singing. Transitions in and out of melodic passages are seamless even within a single lyric.  Whether you’ve been singing for hours in rehearsal, recording, or performing, taking time to cool down your voice is essential for maintaining vocal health. Yet, it’s something most singers forget to do, or even know they SHOULD be doing! 😬
 Vocal cool-down exercises are essential to help:
 ✅ Relax vocal muscles after a long day of singing
✅ Reset your voice and prevent strain or tension
✅ Promote vocal recovery for long-term vocal health
 ⁉️ Did you know? According to Dr. Kari Ragan’s findings in her article “The Impact of Vocal Cool-down Exercises: A Subjective Study of Singers’ and Listeners’ Perceptions”, she notes “Implications about a vocal cooldown regime are that it can lead to a faster recovery time (especially if a singer is in the middle of a heavy voice load), the speaking voice more quickly returns to baseline, and there is a significant improved overall sense of vocal well-being.” (Journal of Voice, Vol. 30, No. 6, 2016) 🌟
