One of the most common questions I get is how to measure for picture frame molding. I hope these measurements help you get started! Helpful measurements to save: - 4.5” between all the boxes, and from the box to the ceiling/ baseboards - The middle box should be about 2x as big as the side boxes - The height of the small boxes should be 32-38” off the floor (depending on ceiling and baseboard height) My ceilings are 9ft tall and the room is 140” wide. Picture frame aka box molding has transformed our bedroom, dining room, and living room! It elevates any space, makes the ceiling feel higher, and provides perfect little nooks that help me decorate more intentionally. 👌🏼 In our bedroom, we started with an accent wall behind the bed where we framed our headboard with one large box then added narrower boxes on either side. We wanted to do something similar on the other walls so everything felt uniform. You can do uniform boxes with equal spacing, or frame larger anchor pieces in your home like we did in this room. 🏠 For our method, start by measuring your anchor item box and tape that out. Then figure out how many boxes you want on either side. For this wall it was two, so we measured the total space, subtracted 9 inches (box spacing) and divided by two to know the size of our boxes. If you don't have or want to buy a miter saw, you can do this with thinner trim that can be cut with handheld miter shears!
