Quick plaster vent hood | ✌🏽

A simple way to elevate your kitchen: a range hood with custom stacked molding detail. Build out the form, then finish it in your plaster or paint so everything reads as one continuous surface. It transforms a basic range hood into something that feels custom, architectural, and European-inspired.

Our vent hood is a combination! We started with our cabinet maker @woodstockcabinets (they built the frame based on the size and shape we requested). Then we had our drywall crew wrap the frame and finish it. This provided a smooth foundation for the plaster. Then we headed to our local paint store and ordered @meodedpaint and had it tinted BM White Dove (the color of our walls). You can apply this in any texture you want. We chose Marmorino Tintoretto. We love how warm it feels. We chose to seal this plaster hood to provide a more user-friendly experience with it’s cleaning and maintenance. The basic nature of cooking will produce steam and it’s inevitable that liquid and oil will splatter. We made this added investment prior to the delivery of this home because we wanted the new owners to be able to get started in this kitchen with the assurance that we’ve taken all the steps possible to help protect their beautiful new kitchen. We worked with our plaster artist to select a matte sealer that would maintain the natural look of our tinted plaster. The result is, well, you don’t even know it’s there but we know it will do it’s job. Despite the extra costs associated with sealing, we think this plaster hood is too beautiful to not do the right thing to take care of it and protect it. . . Range hood part 3!! Unfortunately this is where I made a mistake 😭. The company I got my plaster from sells a project kit which gives you the perfect amount of supplies for a range hood. Well I realized I while doing my first coat of plaster that I was going to run out without doing a second coat—meaning I was doing too heavy of a coat 😣 at that point I just finished and prayed for the best. It ended up cracking in a few places (kinda just looked like snake skin). Luckily I had just a smidge left over that I fixed those spots and sanded them out so they’re not noticeable. Definitely not correct and I’m sure plaster pros would shame me but it’s what I did lol. A learning experience for sure..just makin mistakes so you don’t have to 😜 I got my supplies from @firmoluxvenetianplaster. They have a range hood project kit that comes with the primer, plaster and sealer and can get it tinted to you wall color! I got mine tinted to SW Alabaster. Just wait till you see the texture, it’s super pretty! Reveal tomorrow!! 🥳🥳😵‍💫
