Usually you would wait for seed to ripen before you’d sow it, but in the case of the primrose, primula vulgaris, I like to sow green seed straight from the plant. 🌼🌿 • • • #primrose #primroses #primula #primulavulgaris #sownfromseed #plantsforfree #mothernature #mothernaturesbeauty #garden #gardening #gardeninglife #gardeninglove #gardenlover #gardenlovers #gardensofinstagram🌿🌱🌻 #gardensofinstagram #gardeningisfun #gardenlove #springgarden #plants #planting #plantlover #flowers #flowerstagram #flowersofinstagram #flowerlover #flowerlove #flowerlife #growagarden

Just because we can get any food shipped across the world all year round doesn’t mean we should. I talk a lot about the importance of circadian rhythm - our cells need natural light to know what time it is and thus what jobs to do. But there’s a second layer to this: Consuming food that’s actually growing around us (like this primrose flower tea found on a foraging walk with the kids at the weekend) is another way to stay connected to nature’s cycles and receive the light codes from the sun through them. For most of human history, we ate what the sun was growing where we lived. As always, progress over perfection, there isn’t loads growing in the UK right now, but next time you’re out for a walk look out for: 🌼 Primroses — sweet tasting edible flowers for tea cakes and salads. Rich in vitamin C, anti-inflammatory and gently calming. 🌿 Ground Elder — eat young leaves like spinach or parsley. Great in pesto, soups and omelettes. Traditionally used for joint health. 🧄 Wild Garlic — mild garlic leaves perfect for pesto, butter and pasta. Antibacterial and great for immunity. 🌱 Nettles (young tips) — use like spinach in soups or tea. Packed with iron, calcium and vitamins A + C. 💜 Violet leaves & flowers — salads, syrups and cake decoration. Traditionally used for skin and respiratory support. 🍃 Chickweed — mild, fresh and slightly pea-like. Delicious raw in salads and rich in minerals. 🥬 Dandelion leaves (young tips) — bitter greens that support digestion and liver health. 🌶 Hairy bittercress — peppery, mustard-like leaves. Think wild rocket for salads and sandwiches. Or simply start by googling what’s in season where you live and choosing those first when you shop 🌸 #primroses #plantmedicine #seasonal #herbal #wellness

Primroses are super-hardy, but they can become root-bound and their blooms peter out over time. 🌸 Here's how I divide primroses to give them more root space, leading to bigger, longer-lasting blooms and healthier plants that thrive through even the coldest weather! ❄️ ⠀ If you found this video helpful, please give me a thumbs up! 👍🏻 Thank you! ⠀ You can also join me on a unique garden tour of our coastal garden on Kodiak Island, Alaska. We created ‘quiet’ spaces to escape to, and in doing so discovered ways to enjoy the land. The ‘Dell’ is one secret space we formed in the aftermath of building in those early days. Using excess spoil and stone and rocks from the build, we moulded bunds to create an ultimate grown-up den. Within this intimate space, we planted little whips of Amelanchier, where in late spring the blossom is so delicate and inviting, surrounded by wildflowers throughout the summer, and later in the year, the leaves blast a riot of autumn colour. Spring returns with primroses and cowslips smothering the mounds. It is a secret space full of delicate blossom and colour to enjoy and shelter when the winds blow. A little haven made for escaping. We continued to build more little house-ways and hobbit-like spaces within the land, providing places of intrigue to wander and relax. They touch my inner-child, with a little bit of childhood magic. Unknowingly, at the time, I was creating additional habitats. An extension for nature and wildlife to feed, nest, shelter, hide, and forage. We were now imprinting our mark, but without leaving a trace. : : : #cowslips #primroses #blossom #stylingtheseasons #springwalks #spring #bbcspringwatch #springwatch #dell #dells #secrethideaway #retreat #myspace #hideaway #renovation #englishgarden #countrygarden #upland #landscaping #landscapedesign #landscapegardening #landscapephotography #photography #wildgardening #gardenperformance #gardeninspiration #tranquil #calming #peaceful

I think we have hit peak primrose here in East Devon, and it’s a fantastic display. Worthy of a short reel celebrating this most dependable and cheerful of spring harbingers, I reckon. We are lucky enough to have a wild bank where they just seem to increase every year. And so many different colours, including a stunning white type with an egg yolk yellow middle. Quizzy seems to like getting in amongst them too… 🌸 #primrose #primroses #nature #spring
