We’ve been experimenting with @gelliarts printmaking at Eastgate Studio. Here’s the amazing Jessica Russo Scherr showing how it’s done! Check out more of Jessica’s artwork and tutorials on their profile @bluelavaart”, website and YouTube channel. She’s a gift to insta! Posted @withregram • @bluelavaart My Process Apply Acrylic Paint: Squeeze a bit of acrylic paint onto the Gelli plate -(Vegan synthetic gelatin) and use a brayer to create a smooth, thin layer. Place Your Image: Lay your laser print photograph face-down on the painted plate, pressing gently for solid contact. Transfer the Image: Rub the back of the photo with a brayer or fingertips, ensuring even pressure for a flawless image transfer. Peel and Reveal: Lift your photograph carefully to unveil the transferred image on the Gelli plate. Reverse Painting: Apply one or more layers of acrylic paint, allowing each to dry between applications. Transfer Layer: Evenly apply acrylic paint or gel medium to the plate with a brayer. Cover with Bristol Board paper, weigh it down with books, and let it dry for 20-30 minutes or longer if you used lots lof layers like me. I let mine dry over night. 📸✨ If you want to check out my supply recommendations linked in the bio. Because they need 7 meals a day, but loving every minute of it 🥹

How to lino print (instructions from a fellow beginner) and make your own original art at home, even if you’ve never done printmaking before. All you need is a lino cutter, rollers, ink and lino sheets (available from art shops or Amazon). If you managed to snag one of these for free as part of my giveaway earlier - well done they were gone in 2 minutes, they’ll be shipped in January. #linoprinting #printmaking #diyart #artathome #beginnerart

🎉kitchen lithography in 5 easy steps- Day 32 of #the100dayschallenge - Printmaking Fun🎉 As many people have asked about the process of Kitchen lithography. I thought I would make a little video from the beginning to the end in a few steps. Steps: Step 1: Prepare your plate by wrapping a sheet of foil around a card. Step 2: Draw with a crayon. Step 3: Process the plate with cola. Step 4: Ink up. Step 5: Print with a spoon. Materials: 1. Kitchen foil (aluminium foil) 2. Cola – for processing the plate (any brand and make is fine) 3. Lithography pencil (or any oil-based drawing material. ie, crayons) 4. Water – for washing the plate 5. Oil-based printmaking ink (oil paint also works) 6. Roller – to apply the ink 7. Sponge – for cleaning the plate 8. Spoon – for printing (a real press also works!) 9. Tape – to tape down the plate 10. Kitchen towel 11. Vegetable oil – for cleaning up 12. 2 x cardboard sheets – one for the foil plate, one for rolling up the ink (you can also use a tray and dinner plates instead, as long as they have a flat surface) 13. Paper – to print your edition (any paper will do, even photocopy paper) ✨ I hope you like this tutorial and manage to get all the materials and give it a go. If you manage to make a print, I would love to see it. Please tag me and get in touch. I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with. ✨ I also run a kitchen litho course @MorleyPrint London, if you would like to explore more Kitchen lithography, you are welcome to come along. The course starts in September, for more info, see the link in the bio.

Have you ever tried etching?🧐🤯 One of the oldest and most fascinating printmaking techniques I learned during my bachelor’s degree. It’s not an easy process—it takes patience, precision, and hours of work. From drawing on a metal plate, dipping it in acid, inking it up, and finally pulling that first print… every step feels magical. ✨ The final result? A print exactly as you envisioned—sharp, detailed, and so satisfying to hold in your hands. If you ever get the chance, definitely try etching—it’s an experience every artist should have!
