BCG reduces risk of severe TB but does not guarantee full prevention. BCG can cause a positive tuberculin skin test; IGRA blood test is more specific. Scar size does not indicate immunity level. Usually given once at birth — routine adult vaccination is not recommended. BCG is safe for healthy newborns, except those with certain immune disorders.
