It’s called using Added Fullness 🤓 More details 👇🏼 Adding fullness is 1 of the 3 pattern making principals and in this video i’m adding 1” of EQUAL fullness on the top and the bottom of the sleeve pattern. 1” is also added to the top and 3/4” is added to the bottom before completing the shape. The bigger the rectangle the puffier the sleeve! Lots of questions about a pattern for the big puffy sleeve. But I don’t use one. Because I use mainly thrifted and second hand fabrics I have to work with what I’ve got. So the sleeve allowance has to be in the budget. I budget in two rectangles. This one is the width of the fabric which is 55 inches. Then the depth is going to be 2x how far you want your sleeve to extend (do some folding and mocking up?) Fold in half short sides together. Cut a curve into the top of the sleeve. The short ends will be at the underneath of the sleeve. If they’re longer the sleeve will hang underneath more. The main thing is: have fun playing around with it! Experiment with volume and the details of shape. That’s what I did. Tip: Adding a tulle sleeve head helps keep the shoulders puffy. You may need a bigger tulle sleeve head or stronger tulle. It’s really up to your desired result. Once the tulle is attached fold the bottom of the sleeve back up into the arm hole WRONG SIDES together. Stitch. I like to finish my sleeves with bias binding because you can often see into the sleeve. It’s nice and clean and it’s also keeps the tulle away from the skin.
