After so many requests to do a video on how I purl, I finally made it! I’m an English knitter and this is the fastest way I’ve found to purl (English style) without a lot of wrist movement. The majority of the work is my index finger which freely moves the yarn in the direction that I need while my left hand moves the stitches forward in preparation for the next stitch. I find that my index finger can get sore after a while so if you are trying this method, make sure to stretch your hands every so often to avoid injuries. I do tend to use similar movements to English flicking where I push the needles towards each other to rotate the right needle about my left thumb to make it vertical. Then I wrap the yarn using my right index finger and pull through that new stitch. How do you purl? Do you prefer English or Continental purling more? #knitting #knit #purling

Hello hello my knitfriends! Yesterday, I showed you a continental lever purl, and today I have the eastern combined purl for you. This is the prevalent style used in eastern Europe, and we call it “combined” in the west because it mounts the stitches with right - or leading - leg in back, while the stitches are mounted with right leg in front after a knit row. Western patterns assume the right leg is always mounted in front, so that means you may be editing the instructions for directional stitches to make them appear as intended. I used to knit this way, and I loved it! But I switched to a lever purl when I began knitting and designing lace, because I didn’t want to think about changing the directional stitch instructions back and forth all the time. By directional, I mean stitches that lean a particular way, like ssk and k2tog 🌟🧶 . In other news…quite a few of you wrote to me and were sad to have missed my sale, so I listened! Through 9 July, Pacific time, take 30% off all my self published patterns on Ravelry and designsbyromi.com with code: ENCORE 🌟 And while you’re at it, come on over and join me on Threads and Facebook! And don’t miss my weekly Thursday YouTube Lives through 28 July - learn all about lace and ask all the questions! It’s part of my Summer of Lace KAL, but you can come and watch and ask questions even without knitting along 😘 All the links are in my profile! Ever heard of ambidextrous knitting? To knit back stiches (purling) is often more time consuming and boring. Ambidextrous/backwards/reverse knitting (sometimes also mirror knitting) is an ingenious method that allows you to knit from left to right. Instead of using the right needle as the working needle, one knits from left to right using the left needle to create stitches. By combining this technique with regular knitting, a knitter can avoid turning around the work or purling while still creating the exact same fabric😎🥰 #knittinghacks #tipsandtricks #knitters #knittingaddicted #knitting_inspiration #purling #ambidextrous #knitting #yarn #amazing #viral #besttips #sunday

One thing I love about knitting is there are SO MANY WAYS TO KNIT!! I swear there are no two people who hold there yarn EXACTLY the same. And I love that!! How do you knit and purl?? . I learned to knit from mostly YouTube so I actually did research about the different types of knitting techniques and forced myself to learn continental because I wanted my working yarn in my left hand. It did take some discipline to get myself to this point though!! I had already developed a different way of purling (that is can’t remember at all now) and it took me a minute to get here. . #knitting #purling #yarnworksbyweber

When I first learned to knit, purl rows were the bane of my existence. I hated every minute I spent fighting my tension and my working yarn trying to get these stitches to turn out even… until I realized I wasn’t fighting against my work but FOR control. Even fifteen years later I don’t love to purl - but I’ve found ways to make this stitch easier to handle My biggest purling tip for new knitters is this: use a finger to guide your working yarn as you purl. That finger’s only job is to guide the yarn; I use my middle finger usually. Remember this should be a DIFFERENT finger than the one you use to hold tension (see my pointer finger holding tension). When you separate these two jobs you can learn to get a feel for each of them independently, making the purl process so much smoother when you’re starting out (ie. you won’t have to reset your tension every one or two stitches) #newknitter #knittingbasics #learntoknit #learntopurl #knittingtips #knitting #purling
