🐊: “Haha, what? That is sooo weird!” ARC biologists aren’t jumping invasive Burmese pythons, but alligators might be wishing for it. Did you know that introduced pythons have posed a serious threat to native species in Florida ever since the first one was caught in Everglades National Park in 1979? Although the species wasn’t specified in the original report, most researchers agree that this first recorded removal was likely an invasive Burmese python. These incredible snakes easily grow to be 10-16 feet in length and lay clutches of eggs that average at 30-60, but can be as many as 100 in rare cases. As you might imagine, it was no shock when breeding populations were confirmed by the early 2000s. Hatchlings come out of eggs at 1.5 - 2 feet in length, coiled beneath a mother who hasn’t eaten for months in order to guard her eggs. These hatchlings have an incredible advantage in an ecosystem not adapted to control their populations. For them, almost anything in the Everglades is on the menu, including small or hatchling alligators, raccoons, opossums, frogs, turtles, birds, and even deer. Many natural predators, like American alligators, watersnakes, snapping turtles, river otters, and Florida panthers, share a large overlap in their diet with Burmese pythons. These native species are often outcompeted by the pythons, which can cause declines in their populations and lower survival rates for their young. While local, state, and federal agencies work to combat the invasive python crisis in South Florida, we all can do our part to fight against invasives, too. This looks like practicing responsible pet ownership, supporting local environmental conservation work, and reporting invasive species when they are spotted to local natural resources agencies. Help spread the word about the impacts of invasive species by sharing this post with a friend today.🐊 Videos: American alligator: Jeff Holmes #ARCProtects #ConserveHerps #Wildlife #Conservation #Nature #WildlifeConservation #Reptiles #InvasiveSpecies #Biologists #Alligators #Everglades

Removing a nest like this prevents an entire generation of Invasive Species from entering our ecosystem! As incredible as these snakes are, the environmental damage that they do to our Everglades is absolutely devastating #python #burmesepython #burm #burmese #snake #foryou #fyp #fypシ #explore #explorepage #foryoupage #everglades #florida #floridaman #nature #wildlife #invasivespecies #invasive #reels #nest #eggs

For those of you asking how I found the second nest, I heard a hiss from behind me and then she exploded out of NO WHERE! Even in slow motion, she still came out of NO WHERE! Female Burmese Pythons are extremely protective of their nests, and in this case the female determined that I was a predator trying to attack her eggs and she lunged out to defend them. . #python #burmesepython #burm #burmese #snake #foryou #fyp #fypシ #explore #explorepage #foryoupage #everglades #florida #floridaman #nature #wildlife #invasivespecies #invasive #nest #eggs #pythonnest #pythoneggs #capture #viral

These snakes are SO good at finding your neck! They instinctively know that if they can coil around a predator's neck, they can stop the attack by choking the predator out. In this scenario, the branches and dense vegetation did not allow me to stand up so I was forced to fight the whole battle on the ground. As a professional, I'm able to handle a snake of this caliber by myself, but it's much smarter to have backup. Never underestimate these snakes, these are POWERFUL animals! . #python #burmesepython #burm #burmese #snake #foryou #fyp #fypシ #explore #explorepage #foryoupage #everglades #florida #floridaman #nature #wildlife #invasivespecies #invasive #nest #eggs #pythonnest #pythoneggs #capture #viral

A night of my job as a Burmese Python Hunter! #burmesepython #everglades #evergladesnationalpark #bigcypress #floridaman

On our recent reporting trip to Everglades City, we met an airboat captain who showed us around. He also told us about the Burmese python population Pythons are taking over the Everglades — wiping out native species so fast that scientists say parts of the ecosystem are “unrecognizable” Florida’s python invasion is so out of control that researchers say entire sections of the Everglades have gone silent — as in the mammals are nearly all gone

Most of the time, female pythons are EXTREMELY defensive of their nests, but this individual for whatever reason was not. Not all captures are dramatic! The real thing is not like you see on TV 🤣 . #python #burmesepython #burm #burmese #snake #foryou #fyp #fypシ #explore #explorepage #foryoupage #everglades #florida #floridaman #nature #wildlife #invasivespecies #invasive #nest #eggs #pythonnest #pythoneggs #capture

This is the capture footage of the recent post! Big team effort! The most unique part was that the female ran away. Normally these snakes stay on the nest and defend their eggs with everything they have! . #python #burmesepython #burm #burmese #snake #foryou #fyp #fypシ #explore #explorepage #foryoupage #everglades #florida #floridaman #nature #wildlife #invasivespecies #invasive #reels #nest #eggs #egg

@crittercatchermeg @reptilekyle This is how I found the Python I was wrestling in my recent video! These snakes truly can hide in almost nothing! . #python #burmesepython #burm #burmese #snake #foryou #fyp #fypシ #explore #explorepage #foryoupage #everglades #florida #floridaman #nature #wildlife #invasivespecies #invasive #nest #eggs #pythonnest #pythoneggs #capture #viral

wait for it 🐍🥚 how many eggs do you think this 16 ft mama python had? This was the larger of TWO invasive Burmese python nests @kyletheguy_ @snakeaholic and I got at the SAME TIME this day!! It was literally one of the best days of my life, and it’s all in our new YouTube video where we remove 431 python eggs!! If tactfully executed, we have a lot of hope that this methodology of removal can be used to save a lot of native wildlife. Check it out to see the full capture - link is in my bio :) #TheCritterCult #jointhecult #savetheEverglades

I posted a photo of this Python and I had many comments from people saying the photo was fake and photoshoped 🤣 I assure you it's real! Everything that I post is real and accurate. I am a professional, this is what I do for a living, and I take my job very seriously. . #python #burmesepython #burm #burmese #snake #foryou #fyp #fypシ #explore #explorepage #foryoupage #everglades #florida #floridaman #nature #wildlife #invasivespecies #invasive #giant #huge #head #bighead #reels
