Happy first day of pride month <3333 🏳️‍🌈 being queer to me feels like a strange constellation nestled between my ribs, brushing up against spare pieces of my soul. Everchanging and fluid, something that takes on many shapes and appearances. Something raw and messy and beautiful and human. There is a lot of pressure in LGBTQIA spaces to always feel proud. But pride is not constant. Many queer people spend years unlearning shame, navigating identity, and building self acceptance before they ever feel fully confident in who they are. That means pride can feel quiet, complicated, or still forming. And that is normal. Queer identity is not about performing confidence every day. It is about growth, healing, and becoming. You do not have to feel proud all the time to be valid. Who needed to hear this?

1 year ago today, I came out of the closet as gay 🏳️‍🌈 sharing this part of myself was one of the scariest things I’ve ever done. it took me nearly 30 years to finally exhale. it’s felt like the most beautiful year of my life and also included some of the hardest moments. it’s felt like freedom that no longer edits myself to fit into spaces that were never meant for me. it’s felt like taking a million bricks off of my shoulders and finally feeling like my lungs can breathe fully. I didn’t know this is what breathing actually felt like. no one prepared me for this. i’ve felt joy in ways that are hard to put into words. i’ve experienced the truest version of the word love. i’ve learned what it means to take up space without apologizing for it 🥹 there have also been moments of real hurt. times when people I hoped would choose love, instead worshiped their hateful beliefs at the expense of my humanity. beliefs that left no room for all of me to show up. that pain is real and it’s felt a lot like grief. grieving those who would rather live in fear than open their heart and mind what far outweighs the hurt, is the overwhelming support from those who walked beside me and celebrated me unconditionally. I can never thank those people enough. sometimes I wonder if they realize just how much they mean to me. how much they saved me from really bad moments just by being there. they’ve become like family, in every sense of the word that “family” is meant to be if I had to choose again, I would choose this life every time. even with the loss, the hard conversations and the grief, there is nothing more valuable than living as my authentic self. I will never let anyone tell me who I can love ever again. i know now that i’m worthy of love, respect and belonging exactly as I am. I no longer question if my life has value. to everyone who has supported me, stood by me, and loved me as i am.. thank you. you’ve made this journey not just bearable, but beautiful. I’m proud of myself. for my courage, my honesty, and my refusal to shrink. here’s to one year of truth and many more to come 😘 #comingout #queerjoy
