This was a story from earlier this week, but I wanted it to share it more broadly. My process is intentionally slow. Each sequin and bead is individually sewn on. The finished product is an accumulation of hours and weeks of labor. This is in stark contrast to how most of society forces us to operate where technology, speed, and production are prioritized over thoughtful, time intensive processes. . My process takes even longer if I don't have the right tools. I use a combination of Czech and Japanese beads. Usually, I find more uniformity in the Japanese beads. But Miyuki, you did something wrong with these Sky Blue Lines Crystal AB beads. Every 10 or so beads, the lining closes up the hole. If I force my needle, the whole bead splits and severs my thread. I have literally hundreds of colors and finishes of these beads and this is the only one that's ever given me an issue. LOL! All part of the process though. The cutest Mother and Daughter matching moccasins 💕 I lost my Great Grandma in the beginning of June, I lost my Uncle Brian end of June. It was a tough month. I felt so numb from everything. People asked how I was doing and I couldn’t really give an honest answer because I just really didn’t know. This project was just what I needed. I put it off for so long, I would attempt but It just didn’t seem to get it right, or turn out how I wanted so I would start over. I think it was meant for me to do it when I did. I cried, finally. While sewing the moccasins together I finally released everything. Beadwork, sewing, it really is medicine. And it was meant to be finished exactly when it did.
