The hip hinge is one of the most difficult movements to master and even those with lots of experience can still make mistakes. Focus on your technique first before adding load otherwise you will likely feel lower back pain if you haven’t quite got your form correct. RDL - push hips backwards with an increased bend in the knees. The weight is lowered until you cannot push your hips back any further (this is normally just past the knees). You will begin to feel a small stretch in your hamstrings at this point however the hips will be loaded under maximum tension placing more emphasis on the glutes 🍑 SLD - lower the weight whilst keeping your legs as straight as possible but do not lock out your knees, there should be a slight natural bend. Continue to lower the weight down as far as you can whilst keeping your spine neutral (this will depend on an individual’s flexibility of course). You will feel the full stretch of the hamstrings 🦵🏻 If using a barbell the starting point is from the floor.

Let’s get that RDL form in check! ✅ Save this for your next session 💫 1. Hold your dumbbells or barbell and place your arms in front of your thighs. Keep your chest lifted. Engage your core and glutes. 2. Hinge at your hips. Push your glutes back, allowing for a slight bend in your knees. Keep your core tight and your chest up. Your back should stay straight throughout this movement, and your neck should align with your spine. 3. Lower the weights toward your shins. Straighten your arms and allow the weights to track down your legs. Pause briefly when the weights reach the midpoint of your shins. 4. On an exhale, drive through your heels and hinge from your hips. Use your glutes and hamstrings to stand back up to the starting position. Avoid rounding your back.
