It makes us real.🙌 If we push against negative emotions, we make the whole experience with them even less pleasant. 🫣 They need to be felt and accepted to flow away again. But if we push against this feeling, we hold on longer then we need to. Or when we DO allow them to be there, but we hold on so much that we start to get stuck in a victim mindset. Learn to allow these feelings to be there. You don’t have to make it any “happier” than it is in reality. ❤️ Feel it, allow it to be, and don’t hold on. What you resist, persists.. We’ve been taught to “control” our emotions - push them down, ignore them, act like they’re not there. But suppressing emotions is like holding a balloon underwater. It takes constant effort, creates tension, and the moment you let go? It explodes back up even harder. When you allow emotions to exist without trying to control them, something shifts. You stop fighting yourself. The emotion can float, move through you, and eventually settle on its own. Next time you feel something uncomfortable, try this: Don’t push it away. Name it (“I’m feeling angry/sad/anxious”), feel where it lives in your body, and let it be there without needing to fix it or make it go away. One of the Lighthouse girls had a question regarding emotions that I thought would be worth sharing. She asked: “Do you have any recommendations for self-regulating emotions? I know it’s good to feel emotions deeply but how would you go about kindly managing strong ickier’ emotions like disgust, jealousy; anger etc. I answered: 1. Label it — “I am feeling _______.” 2. Locate it — “I can feel it in my stomach, there’s a tension in my chest.” 3. Breathe into it and sit with it. 4. Validate it — “It makes sense you’re feeling this way. It must be hard.” 5. Express it — Cry, scream, dance, talk, write, meditate, workout, anything that helps you to move the energy. 6. Don’t rush it. 7. Ask it — What is this emotion teaching me about myself and my current situation? What is it telling me I need? What thoughts created this feeling? Be curious rather than critical. Do you feel like you feel things so deeply but don’t know what to do with those emotions? Has people told you you’re too sensitive and so you now see having emotions as a negative thing? Do you try and be positive all the time and not allow yourself to feel anything other than happiness? If that’s the case, you’re not alone.
