We are back!!!!! Many people think “bald eagle” when they hear this scream, but it actually is a red tailed hawk scream! For many years, Hollywood did a hawk voiceover when an eagle was seen flying in a movie. #hawk #redtailedhawk #amelia #scream #vocalize #notaneagle

A juvenile Red-tailed Hawk calling for its parents 🦅 Juvenile Hawks sound very different from adults. While the adult’s cry is a powerful, piercing scream, the young hawks produce a series of short, sharp shrieks. fun fact: That “eagle scream” you hear in movies? It’s actually the call of a Red-tailed Hawk because their cry just sounds more dramatic on screen. 🎬 #EarthCapture by @scottsessionsphoto . . . . #RedTailedHawk #Eagle #BirdsOfInstagram

Did you know, Red-tailed Hawks, like Jake, have a powerful, raspy scream that Hollywood loves to use? Whenever you hear a shrill raptor cry in movies or TV shows, it's often a Red-tailed Hawk, no matter what species is on screen. Check out this video of Jake demonstrating the iconic sound! #NatureSounds #BirdsofPrey #DidYouKnow

It’s not unusual to see birds of prey being harassed by other birds. Hawks and owls are often viewed as a threat, and the other birds do what they can to get them to go away. I saw this male/female pair of Blue-gray Gnatcatchers doing just that to this Red-tailed Hawk by repeatedly bopping it on the head. I doubt this hawk posed any real threat to the gnatcatchers - it would much rather catch a squirrel or something. But the gnatcatchers likely had a nest nearby and felt the need to defend it. I found it amusing and started recording some slow motion video. But I was shocked when the female gnatcatcher briefly LANDED on the hawk’s head! That was the first time I’d seen something like that happen (and I don’t think I’ve seen it since). I edited the video to cut out dead time in between attacks, but there wasn’t much to cut - they were really going at it! The hawk really took it in stride, huh? Almost as if this happens everywhere he goes! 😂 What bird species have you seen harassing hawks or owls? 🗓️ May 30, 2024 📍 Harris Lake County Park, New Hill, NC 📷 Canon R5, Canon RF 200-800mm #bird #birds #birding #birdphotography #hawk #redtailedhawk #birdsofprey #gnatcatcher #bluegraygnatcatcher

When a Rad-tailed Hawk gets an itch during hunting. . . . #redtailedhawk #hawk #birdsofprey

Falcon neighbor parents (Red-Tailed Hawk) are equally doing their fair share of parenting and feeding their own juveniles. Red-Tailed Hawk carrying huge payload of a rabbit. Poor thing was trying to get a break post hunting and also defended some attacks by Maxine (Female Peregrine Falcon). Adding to that was the stress created by photographers getting too close for “the” shot. Some kept getting closer and closer until it flew away far to other end of the dry brushes. Hope they can do better and keep safe distance. While @ta2020photography and I witnessed this from other side of the road down the cliff

Hav you ever seen a hawk hover in mid-air like this? This stellar video of a Red-Tailed Hawk seemingly suspended in the air earned Bill Bryant (@billbryantphotographs) the 2021 Audubon Photography Awards Video Award. 🎥 To get this incredible footage, Bill watched a pair of Red-Tailed Hawks in Golden, Colorado over the course of several days, marveling at how the raptors took advantage of the strong early summer winds streaming down from the Rocky Mountains. As he observed them hovering midair as they scanned the foothills for mice and ground squirrels, Bill noticed this particular bird floating almost level with his lens. The hawk’s head held still while its body moved, its wings and tail working to steady its body while its feet acted as a ballast.
