🪸🐠 TRITON 2.0 GBR Show Tank Update: Refugium Light Recently we upgraded our refugium lighting from T5 tubes to 130W 14K Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs). This change allows us to increase intensity (energy) while still providing the broad spectrum of light required to grow a variety of marine macro algae species necessary for ultimate flexibility of life in our refugium. Many refugium specific LED lights provide a very narrow spectrum that are not suited for all algae and this can become problematic when water conditions aren't conducive for growing Chaetomorpha. Make sure you don't limit the algae species that can survive and thrive in your refugium based on the limitations of your lighting. Seeing some awesome growth over the past few weeks, and overall my parameters have stayed right where I want them. The only thing that drifted a bit was my nitrate‑to‑phosphate ratio. I typically aim for 0.15–0.25 phosphate and 15–25 nitrate. With the recent boost in coral growth and a big surge in chaeto growth, my nitrates dipped lower than I prefer. My plan is to pull out about half the chaeto from the refugium and retest to see how the system balances out.
