I’m a CPA and a mom of littles and I coach small business moms who want DIY bookkeeping, financial clarity, and stress-free tax time. Here’s what I would focus on if I only wanted to spend 15 minutes a week on my bookkeeping: 1 → Go through the bank feed for my business bank and credit card and assign a category for every single transaction. 2 → Make sure there is a receipt or an invoice attached to every expense transaction. I try to take photos of your receipts as soon as I get them to save time. If I have receipts and invoices in my mail I forward these to my Quickbooks email address to have them ready to be attached when I sit down to do my bookkeeping 3 → Review my monthly P&L to see if anything looks strange or unexpected. 4 → Review any unpaid customer accounts or invoices and follow up where necessary. 5 → Make sure there’s no transactions left in any ‘uncategorized’ accounts. If there are transactions waiting on some information to be able to categorize, I will follow up. ✨Bonus: I will reconcile my bank and credit card accounts at the end of each month, and doing the steps from above allows this to only take a few minutes at most.
