@owenscorningroofing Roof Ridge Vent. #construction #homerenovation #realestate #ChristmasGift #design #entrepreneur #interiordesign #carpentry #tools #fblifestyle

This ridge vent should be locked down tight. Instead… it lifts up with one hand. Why? Because the roofer installed it using coil nails instead of the manufacturer-recommended ridge vent nails. You can see where they tried to fire multiple coil nails into it hoping it would hold. But the problem isn’t the number of nails… The problem is the nails aren’t long enough. If the fastener doesn’t penetrate deep enough into the decking, it won’t properly secure the vent. This is how ridge vents end up lifting in the wind and letting rain push into the attic. Shortcuts like this are exactly why following manufacturer installation specs matters. Roofers — would you pass this install? Homeowners — did your roofer follow the manufacturer specs on your roof? 👇 Curious to hear the opinions on this one. ⸻ #roofing #roofer #roofinspection #roofrepair #ridgevent

Basic ridge vent installation. On our XL doghouse example there is no ridge vent. But I touched on them briefly in one of the videos. This clip is from roofing my house. Notice the gap in sheathing and shingles at the ridge. This allows a tremendous amount of heat and moisture to leave the attic space. There’s a porous vent material that gets rolled out then you nail down the cap shingles. The vent material allows airflow under the caps. Ridge vents are used in conjunction with soffit venting at the eaves to allow cool air to enter the attic and then leave out the ridge vent keeping the attic cooler and less humid than it would be otherwise.

Roofing Contractors Should Avoid Walking on Ridge Vents During Inspections Homeowners be cautious if you see roofers walking on the ridge vent during an inspection, as this practice can potentially compromise the integrity of the roof. Contractors walking on your ridge vent during roof inspections can cause damage to the shingles and vent. I’m demonstrating on a roof set for replacement how the weight and movement of walking on the vent flexes and bends the materials, which can lead to issues like unsealed seams, withdrawn fasteners, and cracked baffles. #johntheroofpro #RoofInspection #RidgeVents #ShingleDamage #HomeownerWarning
