And just to be clear — to my deep tissue colleagues: WE NEED YOU! 🙌 This is mostly a reminder to RMTs that it’s okay to let patients know when your treatment style might not be the perfect fit for them. I recently had someone reach out who usually responds best to extremely deep, intense massage and requested an appointment with me. With their best interest in mind, I gently explained that my approach might not give them the relief they’re looking for. If they were open to a slower, firm yet comfortable pressure, I’d be more than happy to see them — but I also shared a colleague’s name who excels in deeper work so they could get exactly what they needed 💪🏼. Why I became an RMT 👇 I never planned to become an RMT. My original path was pharmacy or sports medicine — I was waiting to hear back from universities when everything changed. My dad was diagnosed with cancer, and I was told he had three years to live. In that moment, my plans shifted. I still wanted to be in health care… but I needed a path that allowed me to support my family and move forward at the same time. Massage therapy became that path. And over time, it became my purpose. I learned I could help people move again, rebuild confidence, and reconnect with their bodies after pain or injury. I could take someone from feeling limited… to realizing what they’re still capable of. My dad never got to see me graduate. But every time I help someone get out of pain or reclaim their strength, I feel like I’m honouring the direction he gave my life. So yeah — I joke about eating lunch standing up (because… it’s true 😂). Here we go! 🚀 👨‍💻 Certified ergonomic assessment specialist: This online certification is provided by “the back school.” You can pursue advance certifications as well depending on your professional needs. 🤰 Certified childbirth educator: This certification is offered by many institutions online. Lamaze and International childbirth education association are the two most popular ones. You can attend this certification online. 💪 Certified pilates instructor: BASI pilates, STOTT pilates, Polestar Pilates, Merrithew are some of the institutes that offer pilates instructor training. These institutes offer online and on-site certification programs. 🏋️‍♂️ Certified strength and conditioning certification: It is one of the internationally recognized certifications that you can do if you are a sports or MSK PT. It is offered by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. You can prepare for exam by attending NSCA India’s training programs. 🌸 Pelvic rehab practitioner certification: This certification is offered by Herman and Wallace Institute. This is particularly helpful if you want to specialize in women’s health PT. 🛠️ Certified MDT: Mechanical Diagnosis and Treatment, also known as McKenzie certification, is useful if you are an MSK PT practicing in an outpatient setting. 🧠 Certified NDT: Neurodevelopmental technique is offered by NDT association. It is a 6-week in-person program followed by an exam. It’s been an interesting 6 months so far, but I feel like lots of growth, comfortability, and learning has happened since I first started treating. I’m so excited to share that I’ve officially completed my Reiki Level 1 certification ✨🤍 Stepping into this has opened up a whole new layer of awareness for me.
