Before everything got replaced by apartments and soulless buildings, Route 1 was everything. Mini golf. Batting cages. Arcades. And a 20 foot orange dinosaur watching over it all. Highway 1 through Big Sur is now fully open to traffic for the first time in three years! The area known as Regent’s Slide, which was wiped out by a massive landslide, reopened on Wednesday, allowing motorists to travel uninterrupted from Monterey County to San Luis Obispo County once again.

Highway 1 through Big Sur to Monterey is open and right now is the best time to go. Spring into summer brings some of the best weather, plus the coastal views mixed with wildflowers make the drive even more unreal. There are so many great stops along the way and you can take this route all the way down to San Diego or head north toward San Francisco. From LA, we made our way up to Monterey stopping in Solvang, Morro Bay, Cambria, Paso Robles, and Big Sur. We did it in five days but this is easily a trip you can stretch into two weeks with even more California gems along the way. This is your sign to finally plan that California road trip. Chronicles on the N1 - Vol. 1 ✅ I am bringing you a new segment to Carvogue. The N1 is a bridge between Cape Town and Polokwane, however the portion between Pretoria and Joburg shows the most density.
