• @loganullrich My personal best 2k erg time ⏱️ I did this this last December, two weeks after the 3x2km workout I posted. After how that day went, I was excited to do a max out 2k and get a new pb When I thought about what score I was going for, I was nervous thinking about getting close to 5:40. In my mind I was limiting myself by saying I couldn’t get there. Whenever I have these self doubts, I do my best to challenge them and not let it subconsciously slow me down So I set some target splits for the first 1250 and then just sprinted the best I can. I ended up pacing it really well and I maxed out the best I could. The only thing I could have done differently is start the sprint 50-100m earlier so that I was slowing down more over the finish line, but that’s easier said than done Initially I was disappointed to not break 5:40, and that just makes me want it more. I’m looking forward to seeing how far I can push myself in the future

We have our 2k erg test for Olympic selection coming up, here is a video of our recent erg prep session. On this day we did 4x500m at race pace with 90 seconds rest. Key points from this session: - I like to do a full race warm up to practice what I will do on race day - I pace each 500 as I will do them in the 2k - Gotta practice the sprint 🏃‍♂️ - As always, fuelling with carbs during the session and getting recovery food in quickly after - Recovery swims are always good - Fist bumps are a must 👊 #2kerg #rp3 #rowing

If I could distill 2k pacing down to 4 points, it would be these. START - 3 hard strokes, then immediately lock in on 2k+1. FIRST 1k - stay super consistent. Lock in on one split and rate, and don’t let your attention wander. 3RD 500 - Don’t let your mind fool you. You’re not out of juice. Spend a little extra energy to hit your 2k pace and remember all you have to do is make it to 400 left. SPRINT - Sprint early. Like, EARLY early. At 400m you should start taking the rate up 2-3 beats and crank it. It should feel “too early.” Why? Because your GOAL is to not have ANYTHING left by the finish…. so that if you even had to take 1 more stroke after 2000m, your split would be worse, not better. If you do it right, your 2nd-to-last 250m split will be the fastest of the whole piece. Happy hunting. #rowing #winning #rowrecruit
