🩺 Future physicians aren't just hitting the books -- they're hitting the kitchen. At @gwuniversity, students like 4th-year medical student Charles Cobb dive into recipe planning, hands-on meal preparation, and (yes) some seriously delicious tastings as part of the @gwsmhs's Culinary Medicine elective. 🍎 But this isn't just about cooking. It's about training tomorrow's clinicians to confront one of the most urgent health crises in America: nutrition-related disease. Students learn how to translate evidence-based nutrition into real clinical practice -- empowering them to guide patients toward healthier lives, one meal at a time. For more than two centuries, Harvard Medical School has brought together a community that is deeply committed to advancing science, educating future leaders, and improving health around the world. With a community that's remarkable in both size and breadth — more than twice that of any other medical school in the United States — we draw on expertise across disciplines, institutions, and generations. That scale allows us to tackle complex challenges and mentor tomorrow's doctors and scientists, guided by a shared sense of purpose and a genuine passion to make a difference. #HarvardMed #DiscoverHarvardMed

Last Friday I had the privilege of teaching the OBGYN residents at AdventHealth at the Kitchen House in Central Florida as they work toward becoming Certified Culinary Medicine Specialists. 👩⚕️🥗 We explored how food can support women’s health at every stage of life and how physicians can confidently bring nutrition into everyday patient care. Seeing future doctors embrace “food as medicine” from the very beginning gives me so much hope for the future of healthcare. Grateful to play a small role in shaping a more prevention-focused, nutrition-forward approach to medicine. 💚 #CulinaryMedicine #FoodAsMedicine #WomensHealth #AdventHealth #PhysicianEducation LifestyleMedicine PreventiveHealth DietitianLife YourVirtualDietitian

Last night was a powerful reminder of what’s possible when Lifestyle Medicine and community partnership come together to uplift health. 🌿 Proud to see this vision in action at our community event sponsored by Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity and Lifestyle Medicine teams. It was especially meaningful to watch a physician I had the honor of mentoring step into leadership—delivering an inspiring presentation and live cooking demonstration that brought the science of Lifestyle Medicine to life through food. When we pair evidence-based medicine with cultural relevance, practical tools, and shared meals, we create more than education—we create empowerment. This is how we advance health: together, in community. 🌱 #LifestyleMedicine #CommunityHealth #HealthEquity #FoodAsMedicine #culinarymedicine

Sure, let’s educate future doctors about nutrition. Of course this skill set is important. But It’s a system-problem. Not a knowledge-deficit. Our healthcare system isn’t set up to allow medical providers the time to give in-depth, personalized nutrition advice. No matter how much nutrition knowledge that provider has, there’s just no time for it. If we want to improve the health of Americans, increase access and reimbursement to Registered Dietitians. They’re ready and waiting. What do you think?? #rfkjr #medschool #nutritioneducation #dietitian

Harvard Medical School students are supported by a community that includes more than 12,000 faculty who are advancing science and medicine in their labs, classrooms, and clinics. For fourth-year MD-MBA student Soham Ghoshal, that includes the mentors at HMS-affiliated hospitals who've helped shape his research on improving patient outcomes in orthopedic surgery. For second-year MD student Ria Goyal, world-class researchers and peers are guiding her journey to make an impact on patients’ lives through expert clinical care. Through their HMS journey, Ghoshal and Goyal are becoming leaders and compassionate caregivers, shaping the fields of science and medicine with their knowledge and passion. #HarvardMed #MedStudent #mentorship

Harvard Medical is now teaching storytelling. Not as a hobby. Not as an elective. As strategy. When the most evidence-based institution in the world brings in an Emmy award-winning TV writer to teach future medical leaders how to communicate… That’s not about creativity. That’s about outcomes. Because information alone doesn’t move behavior. Story does. And if narrative can influence patient outcomes, public health decisions, and trust in medicine… Imagine what it does in business. In leadership. In education. Story isn’t decoration. It’s the delivery system for change. The real question is: Is your industry ahead of this… or still pretending story is optional? What field do you think needs this the most?

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Department of Education announced that 53 leading U.S. medical schools across 31 states will begin requiring at least 40 hours of nutrition education (or an equivalent competency) for medical students starting in fall 2026. The initiative—supported by leaders from the American Medical Association, Association of American Medical Colleges, and American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine—aims to strengthen preventive healthcare by ensuring future doctors receive meaningful training in nutrition, an area historically underemphasized in medical education. Officials, including Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Linda McMahon, said the effort is intended to address rising chronic disease linked to poor diet. The plan also includes a $5 million National Institutes of Health challenge to help schools develop nutrition curricula and requires U.S. Public Health Service officers to complete nutrition-focused continuing education. https://www.ed.gov/about/news/press-release/secretary-mcmahon-and-secretary-kennedy-celebrate-medical-school-commitments-increase-nutrition-training-future-doctors
