Puking oil to survive the freezing ocean The Northern Fulmar looks like a gull but hides a gross secret. To defend its nest, this tough Arctic seabird projectile vomits stinky stomach oil at its enemies! They spend most of their lives gliding over cold waves. @hakanguven87 #northernfulmar #seabird #nature #wildlife #birds #ocean #arctic #ornithology

🚨🦅🌊 Cliffside Encounter – Raptor vs Seabird Conflict 😱⚡ On rugged coastal cliffs where land meets the ocean, predators and seabirds often compete for nesting space and food resources. Watch a natural moment of tension as a predatory bird and a seabird interact in a high-risk cliffside environment. 💥 Territorial Pressure: Limited nesting space creates frequent conflict 🛡 Aerial Advantage: Raptors rely on speed and precision in flight 🌊 Coastal Habitat: Cliff ecosystems support dense seabird colonies 😵 Last Clip: A reminder that survival in shared habitats often leads to competition In the wild, space is as valuable as food. 💬 Did you know many seabird colonies are constantly monitored by aerial predators? 🎥 Video Credit: DM for credits/removal to the real owner. 👉 Follow @skullofnature for more wildlife facts, bird behavior, and raw nature scenes. . . . #skullofnature #raptor #seabird #wildlife #naturefacts animalbehavior cliffs ocean

Lend a helping hand 🐣💛 At Hōlanikū, we believe in laulima—many hands working together for the good of all. We’re sharing this important video to highlight the dangers derelict fishing nets and lines pose to Black-footed Albatross and other seabirds. When left in nests, this debris can cause entanglement, injury, and even death. By removing it, we practice laulima in action—keeping nests safe and helping seabirds thrive. Black-footed Albatross (Phoebastria nigripes) nest in colonies on low-lying sandy beaches and dunes, returning to the same nesting site year after year. Each pair lays a single egg between November and December in a shallow sandy nest bowl. While these nests are simple, adults often add nearby natural materials like grasses and sticks. Unfortunately, derelict fishing nets and lines are sometimes mistaken for nesting material instead of natural debris. In this instance, the netting was wrapped around the parent's foot and was likely to become a greater hazard. If needed, the parent will replace this material with another nearby item, such as sticks and leaves found on the beach. This is why we remove marine debris from beaches and ensure all nests are free of entanglements. On average, our team removes 10,000 pounds of marine debris that could cause wildlife entanglements each year. Video features a trained seabird biologist — do not attempt this at home. If you encounter wildlife in distress, please contact your local wildlife professionals. To support this work, consider donating to Kure Atoll Conservancy (links in bio) Mahalo nui loa! Their range spans from the eastern coast of Canada and the northern United States to the western coast of Europe and northern Russia. 60% of the world’s puffins live near Iceland 💙🙌 Happy weekend folks x

To get this clip of an Osprey emerging from the water with a large fish in its talons, Steven Chu had to walk down large, unstable rocks and nearly tumbled down. Luckily, he landed safely and set up on the water’s edge to frame the video. This clip won him the Honorable Mention in the Video category in the 2023 Audubon Photography Awards! 📹🐟 What caught Mick Thompson's (@mickthompson2) eye when judging this shot for last year's competition? "I was impressed with the videographer’s ability to keep the Osprey in focus, which is often difficult when birds are flying towards you. I love the detail we can see in the bird and the fish as we marvel at the Osprey’s ability to hang on. The small waterfall in the background enhances the composition." Have a video that you think will wow the judges of this year's awards? Submit it via the link in our bio! ✨
