the importance of set design: Building a unique world for a music video can really enhance the overall visual and narrative. To create this set, my production designer and I created a scale model of the set so we could get a full view of what the world will look like on the day, and get the exact measurements of the fabric to build the set efficiently. Theatre sets do not always need to be heavy, difficult to transport, or built for a single production. Over a year ago, we designed a flat-pack theatre wall system for schools, travelling theatre productions, touring performances, stage designers, and creative teams needing a lightweight, interchangeable, collapsible, and more sustainable backdrop solution. Since posting the concept on TikTok, the response has honestly surprised us. The video has now reached over 80,000 views with hundreds of saves from people across the theatre and education space. The problem is… we got so busy building custom cardboard installations, event activations, exhibition stands, props, and scenic builds that we never properly launched it. So we’re finally seeing if the demand is really there. These modular theatre walls are designed to:�• pack down flat for transport �• be lightweight and easier to move �• swap graphics, colours, and layouts between productions �• work for schools, touring shows, performances, backstage spaces, and stage design �• reduce waste compared to traditional temporary set builds If you work in theatre production, performing arts, education, stage design, school productions, touring events, or creative direction, we’d love to hear from you. I really love what I do. Creating a set is like building on a blank canvas , what starts as an empty space transforms into a world, even if just for a day. It’s a fleeting moment, gone in the blink of an eye, living on only in our memories. Sets don’t build themselves, props don’t simply appear, and visuals don’t just happen. It’s never the work of one person, it’s a team. I’m incredibly lucky to create alongside some of the most talented and creative individuals.
