When rooting I choose to go one level darker than the clients natural color when trying to achieve tone on tone. 2. Most people root first then apply their global toner. I strongly suggest you try doing your global toner first, rinsing, then apply your root color. This way your root color essentially has an anchor to latch onto instead of a raw highlight. This will give you better coverage and longevity. 3. When battling hot roots or warm transition areas try this! Intermix your Shades levels. For example: Instead of using a 06N try mixing a 04N + 08N to make a level 6. With this formulation you will now have the power and cooler background pigments with the 04N to neutralize the unwanted warmth and the 08N to balance your tone. 5️⃣ tips & tricks on how I root shadow 👉🏼 I used #dialight 7N with 9 volume @lorealpro 1️⃣ The technique required it: placement is everything right? Not every foil placement will be seamless without a root shadow. 2️⃣ Your client needs to go longer between appointments: the root shadow will make sure they get longevity between appointments. It’ll buff out any lines to have a seamless grow out. 3️⃣ When using #dialight from @lorealpro_education_us formulate at the same natural level: in my opinion Dialight will have more coverage the longer you leave it on. I left this on for 10 minutes & had the best end result! Mixing ratio is 1oz to 1.5oz 4️⃣ Apply in the same foil pattern: I always start right down the part & then move into my foil pattern. I feel that there’s less risk of missing a section. You can see where you placed the foils are you move thru the hair. 5️⃣ Leave the hairline for last: most clients want to be lighter around their face. If you leave it for last- it stays on the least. I don’t bring down the shadow as far either! BONUS: 6️⃣ PUT YOUR ROOT TAP ON AT THE CHAIR. You can see better - you’ll have a better end result! ⚡️ We all love a good transformation but that’s not what I want to say. It’s very easy to judge a bad hair color because we know how much time it takes to correct it. 🙈 Made a mistake? We all do! Don’t be afraid to make mistakes,be afraid of not learning from them. Invest in your education and get the training doll and practice. Don’t try on your clients first. If you are not comfortable, be honest and say you are not experienced with that and give another option that you’re sure it will give the best result. They will appreciate your honesty a lot more than a bad job. P.S. Invest in yourself, in your education. There’s nothing better! 😉 . A root smudge doesn’t have to be a significantly darker root. A root smudge is simply smudging the highlight lines for a more seamless grow out and a more expensive look. Typically on my brightest blondes I will use their natural level and half a level lighter, to create the slightest smudge to blend their highlights in with their natural hair. We love expensive looking hair around here, so the fine tuning details are sooooo important. ✨

Ever toned a root a though…: “Why does it look like I did nothing?” Here’s the thing, if your roots shadow is to light … 💥 it disappears 💥 you loose all your contrast 💥 and the grow-out? Meh… 😒 When you are working with a Demi permanent colour remember 👉🏻 it behaves like lip gloss👄 Whatever tone you’ve just lifted the hair to? It shines through your gloss, always!!!
