❌ MYTH: “You can train your scalp to become less oily.” ✅ TRUTH: How much oil your scalp produces is mainly determined by internal factors like hormones and genetics. Changing how often you wash your hair might make your scalp feel more or less oily, but it doesn’t actually change how much sebum your skin produces. 💧Sebaceous glands inside the hair follicles make sebum, which helps moisturize and protect the scalp. Their activity is mostly regulated by hormones - especially androgens. That’s why there’s no scientific proof that you can “train” your scalp to produce less oil simply by washing it less often. Using a gentle shampoo regularly can help remove excess buildup, but it won’t alter your scalp’s natural oil production. 🧼 In reality, washing your scalp more frequently can actually support a healthier balance by preventing oil accumulation that may lead to clogged pores or dandruff. What really matters is finding a washing routine that suits your specific scalp type - whether it’s oily, dry, or balanced. 👩🏼🦰 I have an oily scalp, so washing daily works best for me - but that doesn’t mean it’s right for everyone. Wash your hair whenever your roots feel greasy, whether that’s every day or just a couple of times a week.

Most people think shampoo is about washing hair… but it’s actually about cleansing your scalp. Here are a few common shampoo mistakes ⬇️ ✨ 1. Shampooing the lengths Shampoo is for your scalp only. Let the suds cleanse the ends as you rinse. ✨ 2. Using too much product More shampoo ≠ cleaner hair. A small amount, focused on the scalp, works best. ✨ 3. Scrubbing with your nails This can irritate the scalp and cause inflammation. Use gentle pressure with your fingertips instead. ✨ 4. Not rinsing properly Leftover shampoo can lead to buildup, itchiness, and dull hair. ✨ 5. Rushing the wash Give your scalp time to actually be cleansed. A slow, mindful wash makes a difference. ✨ 6. Skipping the second shampoo If your hair is oily, you use dry shampoo, or you don’t wash often. Shampooing twice helps properly cleanse your scalp. The first wash cleans, the second wash treats. You’ll often notice the second shampoo lathers better, that’s a good sign. Healthy hair doesn’t come from doing more, it comes from doing the basics properly 🤍 If you’re not sure what shampoo your scalp actually needs, message me anytime.

🧼 Shampooing just once is not enough to properly clean the scalp! 👀The difference between the FIRST and SECOND shampoo is insane 🫧

how can your shower make your hair more greasy than when you stepped in it? 👇🏽 1️⃣ not using the right shampoo - using a shampoo that’s not right for your hair type (e.g. one that is too heavy for your hair) is going to add to the issue not help it 2️⃣ not exfoliating your scalp once a week - everyone has some kind of build up on their scalp - oil, dead skin cells, product, sweat - and if it isn’t cleaned off properly it’s only going to add to the current issue instead of helping it resolve 3️⃣ not washing properly - shampoo is a scalp product + so that means it is meant to go on your scalp only!!! and when you do use it, here’s a step-by-step for you > wet hair very well, like sopping! > shake shampoo bottle to mix ingredients > squeeze product into your palm + emulsify BEFORE you apply it to your scalp > massage into your scalp > rinse + repeat! a double cleanse, sometimes even a triple one, helps get the deepest clean. it’s like when you clean your floors. you always sweep first + then mop it. 4️⃣ conditioner isn’t a scalp product to help your itchy scalp - it’s actually making it more itchy! remember how I said using things too heavy for your scalp can cause issues? same goes for conditioner. it’ll weigh down your roots, make it more oily + greasy quicker + isn’t designed to address the scalp concerns. for scalp concerns, you need an oil treatment weekly. 5️⃣ not rinsing well, properly or washing with water too hot - if you’re not rinsing the product out of your hair till your hair feels sticky, it’s not rinsed out well. rinsing with water too hot is not only going to strip your hair of the moisture and natural oils it needs, but it’s also drying out your scalp too. make sure to always use warm water + then cool water to rinse out your conditioner to seal in any moisture. for more hair tips, make sure to follow! if you’re wanting personal hair help, my DMs are always open too ❤️ #oilyhair #scalphealth #hairhealth #hairtips

I get it. Busy morning. Late workout. No time to wash your hair. Dry shampoo can save the day temporarily. It doesn’t actually clean your scalp. It doesn’t remove buildup. It doesn’t exfoliate. And it definitely doesn’t replace a good wash where you’re massaging your scalp and getting everything off. It’s a quick fix for your hair, not a long-term plan for your scalp. Use it when you need to. Just don’t let it become your full-time hygiene routine!

there can be a lot of contributing factors + here are a few ❌ focusing shampoo on your ends - shampoo is meant for your scalp + your scalp only. Scrubbing the ends can strip natural oils + moisture, while leaving buildup at the roots ❌ missing areas of your scalp - behind the ears, the nape + crown…those area matter more than you may think. if you find it’s not even across the entire scalp, keep doing it until it is. sometimes I do 3 shampoos! ❌ skipping the second cleanse - first wash lift grease, second wash actually cleanses. think of it like how you clean your floors. sweep, then mop. do more if needed. ❌ using a shampoo that isn’t right for your hair - too heavy = greasy ❌ conditioner up too high - it’s is meant for your hair, not your scalp. so always use it from the ears downs. never near the top ❌ not rinsing conditioner out properly - any residue left behind = flat, greasy hair soon after wash (been there too many times!) ❌ using dry shampoo after your scalp is already oily - apply it on clean hair to absorb oils as they come in, apply under your hair, not on top + leave for a minute or two before massaging it in with clean hands ❌ layering oil treatments, masques or other leave ins without proper cleansing - you need to do a weekly scalp exfoliant/clarifying shampoo when you apply masks or oil to your hair ❌ not cleaning your hair brush on a regular basis - your brush can make your hair more greasy when you keep brushing your clean hair with old grease, oils, dead skin cells + hair. try to wash it 1-2x a month ❌ not blow drying your roots after you wash - this makes the perfect environment for yeast, bacteria + mold to grow on your scalp, making it itchy, oily + causing other scalp issues haircare can seem overwhelming + that’s exactly why I’m here - to keep it simple, effective + giving you the tips you need to have your best hair ever save this for later + follow for more tips! I’ve been able to transform my hair by simply using the right products + having a simple routine while creating new habits. helping you with your hair is what I love to do + my DMs are always open ❤️ haircare | scalp health | oily roots | healthy hair

I don’t use “random shampoo” anymore — and it’s not because I’m loyal to a brand…it’s because once you understand ingredients + scalp health, you can’t un-know it. Most hair issues don’t start at the ends — they start at the scalp. What you wash with matters more than how often you style. This is my current wash routine and why I stick with it: ✔ supports scalp health ✔ no heavy buildup ✔ works with my hair, not against it And yes — it happens to be on sale today (which almost never happens 👀). If you want help choosing the right products for your hair, DM me “hair” and I’ll walk you through it 🤍

Your hairs not broken…. Most of the time it’s just tiny bad habits we’ve all picked up along the way. Here are the ones I see ALL the time. ✨ Shampooing the ends instead of the scalp Your scalp needs the cleanse, when you pile your hair on top of your head when shampooing, it seems foamy but the scalp might be getting missed (You are also drying out your lengths) ✨ Missing bits of your scalp Behind the ears, the nape, the crown… those areas matter more than you think. If the foam isn’t even across the entire scalp, keep doing it until it is. I sometimes do 3 shampoos! ✨ Skipping the second cleanse First wash lifts the grease. Second wash actually cleans. Do more if needed ✨ Using a shampoo that isn’t right for your hair Too heavy = greasy. ✨Conditioner creeping up too high It’s a mid-lengths and ends situation only, don’t plonk the conditioner near the top ever. ✨Not rinsing conditioner out properly Any residue left behind = flat, greasy hair the next day. We’ve all been there right? 😆 ✨ Using loads of product “just in case” More doesn’t mean better. It just means build-up. And running out faster. ✨ Rushing your wash A quick wash usually equals a dirty scalp. Make it a ritual, not a chore. Light a candle, play some music. This is your self care x ✨ Layering oils and masks without proper cleansing. You need to do a weekly detox shampoo or clarifying shampoo when you often apply masks and oils to your hair ✨ Washing your hair the moment it seems a little dirty. Your scalp is always producing oil, it’s a good thing. Work with it. A little greasy? Add oil to the ends and rock a slick look. Or a bun. Or a hat. Haircare can seem overwhelming, this is exactly why I’m doing the January Hair Reset with you 🫶 I’m sharing it daily on my stories, little tweaks, nothing overwhelming, just habits that actually make a difference over the next 3–6 months. We’re not aiming for perfection. We’re aiming for better hair habits together 🤍 If this made you feel seen, save it, send it to a friend, and come follow along on my stories @hello_healthy_hair

If dry shampoo makes you itchy or flaky, it’s usually because it’s being used as a substitute for cleansing instead of a bridge between wash days. Comment DRY and I’ll send you my scalp routine to help extend time between washes without irritating your scalp! #scalphealth #healthyhair #healthyhairtips #dryshampoo

Yes you need the right shampoo but you also need to wash with it correctly! My scalp always feels extra clean when I wash intentionally 🫧

It’s not about switching shampoos every time the bottle empties🧴 It’s about how you’re washing. Double cleansing. Sometimes triple. Even quadruple if you’re stretching washes, using dry shampoo, or layering products. The first wash lifts the dirt, oil and buildup. The second wash actually cleanses the scalp. The third is where you start to feel the lather get creamy and rich because your scalp is finally clean. Most women tell me their hair gets oily fast… but they’re only washing once. So the buildup stays behind and your scalp goes into overdrive trying to compensate. When you cleanse properly, your roots stay fresher, your volume lasts longer and your scalp feels balanced instead of tight or greasy. comment below if you need help choosing the right shampoo for you✨

First of all - it is not your fault!! How I am in my 30s and just learning these things is crazy 🤯 but no gatekeeping here, so if you struggle with greasy scalp and dry ends, maybe this can help! 1. Most shampoo bottles will say “wash until lather” but how are we supposed to know if our hair has had a good lather when products include endocrine disrupting ingredients like sulfates that cause a fake sud? To be safe, always wash twice. First wash = sweep. Second wash = mop. 2. This seems like a no brainer but how did I just learn this 2 years ago? You wash your scalp and condition your ends. There is enough lather from your hair wash to clean your ends, and if you do wash them it may contribute to them being dry. Applying conditioner above your ears can also cause a greasy scalp. 3. This last tip I just started implementing. I seperate my hair horizontally when I shampoo and vertically when I condition. If you plop all of your hair on the exterior layer of your hair then there is a big probability the underneath of your scalp isn’t being cleaned (hello build up = grease) and the underneath of your hair isn’t getting enough moisture (aka dry ends). Best part is these tips are all free and super easy to implement! However, comment “Scalp” if you’d like to be set up with a scalp health routine and products that actually perform. #hairgoals #haircaretips #scalphealth #hairofinstagram #washroutine
