📌Don’t miss these spring hikes in Shenandoah National Park Spring is (basically?) here and Shenandoah is about to put on a show! From waterfalls to wildflowers, here are a few of my favorite hikes to enjoy the beauty of the season. 👉🏼Which trail are you hitting first!? 🚨As you get out there to connect with nature, please be sure to do your part to keep Shenandoah beautiful! It’s crucial we protect these natural spaces by practicing responsible recreation, including following the 7 principles of Leave No Trace: 1. Plan Ahead and Prepare 2. Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces 3. Dispose of Waste Properly 4. Leave What You Find 5. Minimize Campfire Impacts 6. Respect Wildlife 7. Be Considerate of Other Visitors Happy spring & happy hiking! -Kris ❤️

This hike has waterfalls, cliff jumps, and natural slides— all in one place. White Oak Canyon is located inside Shenandoah National Park (Syria entrance), and it offers swimming holes just 1 mile into the trail. Entry is $30 per vehicle unless you have a valid National Park Pass. The main lot is free with a pass, but it fills up fast. If you arrive late and have to park in the overflow lot, it’s $10 cash-even if you already have a pass. Tip: One side of the trail leads to a series of waterfalls and a natural slide. The other has hidden pools between massive boulders. I hiked both-stay to the end for real tips from other visitors. #WhiteOakCanyon #VirginiaHiking #WaterfallsOfVirginia #HiddenSwimSpots #ExploreVirginia #SummerHikes #NatureVibes #HikingWithViews #TrailLife #EastCoastHiking #SwimHoles #WanderVA #OutdoorAdventures #ReelHikes #shenandoahnationalpark

Here are some cool waterfall hikes and swimming holes to check out in Shenandoah National Park, Virginia! It’s the best time to hike some waterfalls right now 🙌🏼 ‼️Don’t forget to Leave No Trace and be respectful of nature - ALWAYS. ⛔️ It’s getting warm, and the flowers and trees are starting to bloom, the perfect time to get outside and enjoy places like our national parks. These public lands mean so much to so many of us, but they need ongoing care and support to stay protected. If you feel the same, consider reaching out to your reps to share why parks and public lands matter to you. 🤍 Planning a trip to Shenandoah National Park, drop “Shenandoah” below and I’ll send over the links with hike details, spots to eat and stay (including dog-friendly ones!). 🫶🏼✨ follow for more fun things to do in Virginia and beyond 🫶🏼🐾 . . . . . . #virginiablogger #hikingwithdogs_ #dmvblogger

3 of our favorite swimming hole trails in Virginia’s Shenandoah National Park (all under 2.5 hours from Washington, DC 🌿💦 📌 𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗱𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝘂𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 & 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗻𝗼 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 by leaving trails better than you found them, giving wildlife plenty of space, packing out your trash (including organics), use natural sunscreen when swimming, and considering picking up litter that others left behind. Always be kind to park staff, and consider donating to organizations working to protect our parks if you can, so we can keep Shenandoah beautiful. 🫶🌿 We spent the weekend sending it into some of our favorite, icy blue pools in Shenandoah and wanted to share three of our favorite trails if you too are looking to beat the heat and to find happiness in a Virginia swimming hole… 📍Cedar Run Falls Trail 🥾 5.8 miles, 2.2K feet of elevation *We typically cut this one short and hike from the bottom/Weakly Hollow Road up to the pools and natural water slide and turning back making it more of 4 miles round trip route. 📍 South River Falls Trail 🥾 4.3 miles, 1.2K feet of elevation *We hiked the South River Falls Trail down to the plunge pool but ended up taking the fire road back out making a loop 📍 Overall Run Falls Via Thompson Hollow 🥾 2.1 miles, 400 feet of elevation *The trail name above is a misnomer (AllTrails) The pools pictured are not technically part of Overall Run Falls but are part of Overall Run. Walk down Thompson Hollow Trail and turn right onto Overall Run Trail to find the pools pictured. Turning left will take you up to actual Overall Run Falls (called Overall Falls via Thompson Hollow Trail) ⚠️ Always check water conditions/depth/for debris before jumping and know your limits. Natural rock slides are inherently sketchy. You might get banged up on your first run after watching your husband glide down like a slippery seal 20 times previously. You just never know. 💦 Anyway, send this to who you’re bringing && Happy Exploring!!! #virginiaisforlovers #hikemore #visitvirginia #virginiaisforhikers #virginiahikes #shenandoah

📝Add this hike to your bucket list! ✈️But first, follow @hikingwithhykes for more National Park bucket list hikes! 🏞️Shenandoah National Park is one of the east coasts hidden gems. This park truly has some of the best sunrises and sunsets we have ever seen! 🐻Shenandoah does have a dense population of black bears, so make sure to carry bear spray, and store your food away securely when not consuming it! 🥾This hike specifically does require some rock scrambling and has some steep cliffs. So if you are afraid of heights, you may want to sit this one out! 🙈Riley is generally not a fan of heights, but she felt comfortable enough to join in on the epic views by just going slow and steady! ⛰️Bearfence Mountain | Shenandoah National Park 🌅Send this to the friends you want to watch sunrise here with! • • • • • • • • • • #hikinghykes #adventuretravel #couplestravel #travelcouple #ohioblogger #weekendroadtrip #roadtrip #shenandoah #nationalpark #visitvirginia #virginia #bucketlisttravel

Shenandoah National Park has its share of breathtaking water

Shenandoah National Park has its share of breathtaking waterfalls, from gently tumbling cascades, to energetic cataracts that fill the forest with the sound of rushing water, all with hikes, varying in length and difficulty, from which to view them ⛰ ⠀ 💧Overall Run Falls ⠀ This is the tallest waterfall in Shenandoah National Park, and one of the largest continuous waterfalls in Virginia, with an impressive drop and impressive view. ⠀ 💧White Oaks Falls ⠀ This is the most popular destination in the area, mostly because it has six waterfalls. Each waterfall, ranging in height from 35 to 86 feet, has a swimming hole at the bottom. ⠀ 💧Rose River Falls ⠀ This is a cascading waterfall that can have as many as 4 cascades after heavy rain. There are a number of streams and pools for splashing and cooling off. Two back-to-back segments form the whole of Rose River Falls. ⠀ 💧Dark Hallow Falls ⠀ The broad, multifaceted cascades are entrenched deep within the walls of a steep valley. The series of waterfalls and cascades have some steep sections which can make the hike challenging but standing at the base of this 70-foot falls is worth the effort. ⠀ 💧South River Falls ⠀ This is the 3rd tallest waterfall in Shenandoah National Park. One of the most spectacular experiences is standing in the thigh-high pool at the base of South River Falls, gazing at its precipice 83 feet above, and being sprayed with its cooling mist. ⠀ Don’t miss the chance to see these beauties, while staying in Bearloga log house!😍

Are you looking for a great short hike in Shenandoah Nationa

Are you looking for a great short hike in Shenandoah National Park? These trails deliver views and waterfalls without the long mileage, like Old Rag or the White Oak Canyon loop. Here they are from shortest to longest: • Blackrock Summit (~1.0 mi loop) MM 84.4 Easy hike with a unique boulder field and wide-open views at the top. • Stony Man Trail (~1.6 mi loop) Skyland Area One of the easiest ways to get a classic Shenandoah overlook. • Hawksbill Summit via Upper Hawksbill (~2.1 mi out & back) MM 46.5 The highest point in the park, with panoramic views that are worth the climb. • Dark Hollow Falls (~1.4 mi out & back) MM 50.7 Short and popular waterfall hike. You hike down to the waterfall, so just remember the return is uphill. • Rose River Falls (~2.6–4.0 mi options) MM 49.4 A longer but rewarding hike with multiple waterfalls along the way. You can combine to make a loop with Dark Hollow Falls, too! These hikes are perfect if you have a few hours to fill while visiting the park. Please remember to LEAVE NO TRACE. Places like Dark Hollow Fall were some of the worst places we visited. Other visitors left water bottles, snack wrappers, and even a mostly full box of mini powdered donuts behind. Check your area as you’re heading out. Maybe even twice. And please be respectful of other visitors. Save this for your next trip to Shenandoah National Park and follow @paonpause for more easy outdoor escapes.

🙌 Shenandoah is the G.O.A.T. for short day hikes and for beginner hikers! 💕 SHARE this with someone you want to hike in Shenandoah with this spring! 🥾Since most of the trailheads in Virginia’s Shenandoah National Park start at elevation along the stunning Skyline Drive, you can easily hike several trails in one day! Below are some of our favorites 👇 1️⃣ Little Stony Man- Panoramic views of Shenandoah Valley from Little Stony Man Cliffs. If you want a longer hike, you can keep going on the 3.3mile “Little Stony Man Loop via Appalachian Trail” 1.2 mi, 350’ 2️⃣ Mary’s Rock- Beautiful views of Shenandoah Valley. Legends say it’s named for a young girl named Mary who was lost in these mountains, and was later discovered walking down from this peak with two bear cubs! 2.7mi, 750’ 3️⃣ Bearfence Mountain Trail- Rock scramble with 360 degree views. 1mi, 242’ 4️⃣ Dark Hollow Falls Trail- Peaceful waterfall nestled in the forest. 1.6mi, 583’ 5️⃣ Blackrock Summit- Beautiful views of the Shenandoah Valley. You don’t actually have to scramble on the rocks at the top unless you want to- the trail technically goes around it. 1.1mi, 180’ (also the last clip) 6️⃣ Hawksbill Summit Trail- highest peak in Shenandoah National Park; panoramic views; Short and steep. Start on Lower Hawksbill Trail which connects with Byrds Nest #2 road at the top leading to the viewing platform. 1.6mi, 672’ 🤑 𝐂𝐨𝐬𝐭: $15 for 7 day car pass, or use your America the Beautiful Annual Pass ($80/year for entrance to all US National Parks) 🚗 Shenandoah has something for everyone! It is both the perfect National Park for people who LOVE hiking… and for those who don’t! The many viewpoints along Skyline Drive are stunning even from the comfort of your car! 👋 New here? We’re Ayla & Jordan, Vermonters and 9-5ers who’ve got a goal to see EIGHT new-to-us US National Parks this year! 5 favorite hikes in Shenandoah National Park. All kid friendly, except for Old Rag which would depend on the kid and their ability to hike 10 miles with some scrambling. 📍Blackrock Summit- probably our favorite trail of the park, it’s easy and the views are INSANE. Perfect for sunset. 1.1 miles, easy, 🐶 Located in the southern portion of the park, near Dundo Campground 📍Old Rag- One of the coolest hikes I’ve ever done, half of this hike is super fun rock scrambling with amazing views, the other half is a boring fire road. 9.3 miles, hard, NO dogs, PERMIT required ($1) Located outside the main park, about an hour from Skyland 📍Dark Hollow Falls- A busy but beautiful waterfall hike, and one of the few places in the park to find water and cool off in the summer. Get there early! This parking lot fills up fast. 1.6 miles, moderate, NO dogs Located in the middle section of the park, near Big Meadows Campground 📍Black Rock Trail- Not to be confused with Blackrock SUMMIT, the super short hike is a favorite to watch the sunset when staying at Big Meadows. 0.5 miles, easy, 🐶 Located next to the Big Meadows Lodge. 📍Stony Man- Our second favorite family hike at Shenandoah, lots of rocks for the kids to climb and epic views. There are two options for this hike, depending on how far you want to go and whether you want to bring your dog. 1) Little AND Big Stony Man- 3.3 miles, moderate, NO dogs, you can start at the main Stony Man parking lot, located next to Skyland. 2) Little Stony Man only- 1.2 miles, moderate, 🐶, park in the small parking lot located near mile point 42 Want more hike details? Yep- I said what I said. It’s my FAVORITE trail. 😬 I included a clip of this spot in my last reel and so many of you inquired about it. I thought I’d give it some spotlight and share the details! Before we go there, I have to ask that you please show this place the same respect you’d show a friend’s home. You wouldn’t leave a mess behind would you?? 🥾This is the Cedar Run Trail in Shenandoah National Park. It’s in the central district and makes up half of a 10 mile loop with White Oak Canyon trail. You can access Cedar Run trail from Skyline drive (top) or Lower White Oak Parking area (bottom). I personally recommend starting from the bottom and ascending Cedar Run Trail, turning back after the last waterfall (the water slide- about 2 miles in) or coming down the White Oak Canyon Trail. You can’t go wrong- there are so many beautiful waterfalls! Either way, you’ll need to pay the park entry fee or bring your National Parks pass. ⚠️Please note that this is NOT an easy trail. It is rated hard for the steep grade and rocky/slippery terrain. It’s absolutely gorgeous and well worth it, just make sure you’re prepared! 👉🏼Have you done this Shenandoah hike yet?

This trail is short but very steep and rocky. The return climb is challenging! Know your limits and take your time, especially when the trail is wet and slippery. The trail gets super busy! The earlier you start, the better. This was on a Sunday at around 9 am. We had the waterfall to ourselves and only saw a couple when we are on our way back to the parking lot. 📍Dark Hollow Falls (Shenandoah National Park) 🥾 1.4-mile circuit hike
