The lateral raise machine is set up for you to drive straight out to the side, but that isn’t the way our medial delt is best biased. Our medial delt is going to be best biased in a scapular plane. This means, if you use the machine as a clock, you want your feet to be pointed at 2 (right side) and 10 (left side). This set up allows you to be in the scapular plane and better bias the medial delt! #TeamMihaly

When performing standing machine lateral raises, avoid bending your arms too much like you’re flapping your wings — this reduces tension on the side delts and shifts the focus elsewhere. Rear Delt Fly Machine Mistake 🚫 A common mistake on the rear delt fly (pec deck) is squeezing your shoulder blades together. This shifts the work to your traps (unless that’s your goal) and takes tension away from the rear delts, limiting how many quality reps you can get. Instead, keep your shoulder blades slightly spread apart throughout the movement. They’ll still move a bit—that’s normal—but avoid actively pinching them together.
