👇🏻3 Drills to Level Up Your Turns ⛷️ Important: the outside ski is in charge — you need pressure on the outside ski. 🎿 1. To build pressure on the outside ski, it helps to lower your body position slightly. This gives you more range of motion and reduces leverage from the forces acting on you. 2. Move your upper body over the outside ski to shift most of the pressure onto it. 3. Once you feel stable over the outside ski, you can lift the less-loaded inside ski to further improve your balance and position. One of the biggest ski mistakes (that I see daily as a ski instructor) can actually be fixed pretty simply… Being in the back-seated position leads to: - leg burn - lack of control over speed - lack of edge control If you’ve been told to ‘bend your knees’… try instead to ‘flex your ankles and push forward into your shins. Middle Position 🎿 The Middle Position is your movement-ready stance on skis balanced, centered and prepared to react at any moment. With ankles, knees, and hips slightly bent, your body stays athletic and dynamic. The entire sole of the foot is evenly loaded, creating balanced pressure along the full length of the skis. Unlike forward or backward lean where either the forefoot or heel carries more weight the Middle Position keeps your center of mass aligned over the middle of the skis. Skis stay hip-width apart, arms relaxed and slightly forward, eyes looking ahead. Stable. Reactive. In control. From here, you can move in any direction anytime. Your real edge control starts from the ankles, then the knees, and only then do the hips follow. Sl what we think is: ankles, then knees, followed by hips.
