HERE'S WHAT I DIDN'T KNOW ⬇️ ‼️To sleep train well, we have to focus on FULLY independent sleep! I was only going halfway there. I was putting my baby down semi awake, and then was trying to help her settle during sleep training check ins. She just cried so much for three nights in a row, I quit!  Here's what I had missed: 1️⃣ Drowsy-free sleep routines, with the bedtime feeding being a first step (turns out drowsy nursing before bed is a recipe for a sleep training disaster!) 2️⃣ Mindset around sleep training check ins. We aren't there to help make sleep easier or quicker for  babies. Our voice/touch is to reassure them, and model that calm, loving energy. (I was trying desperately to stop the crying each time I checked in, I was staying too long and creating WAY more upset).  😴 Once I understood this my sleep training plan WORKED, and my baby learned to sleep through the night in THREE DAYS. She slept, I slept, and we were BOTH so much happier. My days were more peaceful, and I enjoyed being a mom. This was so life-changing, it led to a huge career shift for me. Now as a Pediatric Sleep Consultant, I have helped 1000s of parents  do this too!  I KNOW how to sleep train effectively, and easily.  We want to help YOU make this happen for your family!  🫶First, hit FOLLOW (because instagram often won't let me message you unless you follow us!) 😴 Then, comment BUNDLE and I'll send you everything you need to transform sleep for your 4-18m old! No more googling sleep training methods, or worrying about overtiredness 🙌  ✅ All the detailed sleep scheduling advice you need for ages 0-4 years  ✅ Two step by step responsive sleep training methods for your 4-18m old  (and instructions for how to prepare for success!)  ✅ My Sleep Training SOS guide (troubleshooting help, In case things don't go as planned!)  ✅ Evidence based solutions for frequent night wakings, short naps, and early mornings.  🌟Comment BUNDLE, and I'll send you the link! Always cheering you on and sending the good sleep vibes! ❤️ -Shanel

Everyone has been asking for older baby tips, so here’s a tutorial that works great for 5-7 month olds! My baby is totally gently sleep trained so I don’t usually have to offer her help to go down anymore, but our timing was messed up due to an unforeseen poo 💩 so I had to give LOTS of help after I changed her diaper. With 5 month olds, you’ll want to change the way you’re putting them to sleep all at once vs introducing it slowly, which is what I recommend before this age. You can see that cribside comforting still works pretty well, but you’ll have mix in more pick up/put down. If you want ALL the info on exactly how to be successful at sleep training without tears including detailed plans and schedules, head to the link in my bio or hhsleep.com for my baby sleep class that’s just $35! #creatorsearchinsights #baby #5monthsold #sleep #sleeptraining Clingy baby baby sleep training Sleep training baby Gentle sleep training Gentle parenting

If someone is pressuring you to sleep train your baby under the age of one, send them this😱 Sleep training under the age of one, especially in the first six months, can be considered damaging by some experts for a few reasons: 1. Emotional Security & Attachment – Babies rely on caregivers for comfort, and responding to their cries helps build a secure attachment. Ignoring their cries too early can lead to stress and insecurity. 2. Brain Development – Infants’ brains are rapidly developing, and prolonged distress (such as crying without comfort) can increase cortisol (a stress hormone), which may impact emotional regulation later in life. 3. Nutritional Needs – Many babies under one, especially those under six months, still need night feedings for proper growth and development. Sleep training may lead to missed feedings that are essential. 4. Self-Regulation – Babies are not developmentally capable of self-soothing in the early months. They need co-regulation (comfort from a caregiver) to learn how to manage stress. 5. Increased Risk of SIDS – Certain sleep training methods that involve long periods of unresponsiveness can increase stress levels, which may contribute to unsafe sleep situations. That being said, gentle sleep strategies that focus on supporting a baby’s natural sleep patterns without prolonged crying can be beneficial. Responsive approaches, like offering comfort while encouraging independent sleep, can be a good middle ground. I’m sharing this to share why WE chose not to sleep train our baby, not to judge anyone else’s decisions. #InfantSleep #GentleParenting #SleepTraining #NewMomLife #MomTips #ParentingSupport #BabySleep #SecureAttachment #MotherhoodUnplugged #GentleSleepTraining #LowToxLiving #MomLife #FirstTimeMom #NaturalParenting #HolisticMotherhood #MindfulParenting #AttachmentParenting #SleepTrainingDebate #BreastfeedingMama #ConsciousParenting #RespectfulParenting ,

I am a big believer in attachment, but so many parents think sleep training or doing anything to improve a baby’s sleep has to involve lots of tears, but there are super gentle methods like mine that actually promote the attachment bond. My baby knows how to put herself to sleep, but she also knows I will always come if she truly needs me, she just doesn’t need me that often because she feels safe and comfortable falling asleep in her crib 💕 If you want to learn all about how to do this with your baby & join the thousands of parents who have taken my baby sleep class, head to the 🔗 in my bio or hhsleep.com for my baby sleep class - it’s just $35! 👶💤🌙 and follow me @kendraworth for lots of free tips! #babysleep #newbornsleep #sleepconsultant #infantsleep #gentleparenting #gentlesleeptraining #sleeptips #gentlesleeptraining #sleephelp #momlife #tiredmom #parentingtips

61,931

I am NOT saying that a modified cry it out method is a MUST but some babies just do not respond well to a gentle sleep training method… Most gentle sleep training methods end up taking 6 weeks-6 months on average and over the course of that long period of time, baby may resist the changes and approaches MORE often than just doing a more accelerated approach where you do it once for a couple days and only have to revisit it with any possible regressions! For a gentle sleep training method we really focus on making very SLIGHT changes to our baby’s sleep routine SLOWLY overtime. So when we change their sleep routine baby may have a few days of adjusting every time which is why I find that babies who end up doing a modified cry it out or a GENTLE CRY IT OUT method, cry LESS!! 👀 What are your thoughts?! 💭 I’d love to hear your experiences with gentle sleep training! #gentlesleeptraining #sleeptraininghelp #sleepconsultant

Ugh.. short naps. You KNOW your baby needs more sleep. YouKNOW they’ll be cranky. The day is thrown off because instead of that 1.5 hour nap, they only got 20 minute. So you start the wake window clock over again…praying that the next nap is longer. 😴 Babies are little creatures of habit. They crave rhythms and routines. They’re also tired and WANT to sleep. They just don’t know how. So here’s what NOT to do…and what you can do to help elongate these naps. 1. Do NOT race in the room! Stirring between sleep cycles is normal…and we want to give our babies a change to settle themselves. 2. Do NOT get up and immediately feed! This is hard but I promise it will help. If you choose to end the nap and feed…that’s fine! But try and wait 10 minutes. Feeding isn’t wrong at all but babies can begin to associate waking early into a nap and getting fed immediately. Feeding in another location can help too! 3. Do NOT choose a rescue nap that is their biggest sleep association! If they only want to sleep if they’re being rocked..the rescue nap in a carrier or on a drive. If they only want to feed, try rocking without feeding. But what can you do to help?! 1. Begin waking at the same time each morning. This will set the stage for naps and help your baby’s circadian rhythm. 2. Practice crib hour…you can interval check or soothe but practice working towards time in crib even if it’s not successful day one. 3. Try wake to sleep…gently go into their room a bit before they wake and turn up the sound machine or lightly touch their back. This can help them cross over to the next sleep cycle! 💤 If you’re struggling with short naps, night wakes and are just not even sure where to begin with baby sleep…I’ve got you! I’ve created a sleep through the night guide based on working 1:1 with families. This guide follows the same blueprint I’ve used to help baby’s sleep through the night using GENTLE and RESPONSIVE methods that work. Comment GUIDE and I’ll send you the link! Because mamas and babies need rest to thrive…and sleep should be affordable for all ❤️ #sleepthroughthenight #babysleeptips #babywontsleep #gentlesleeptraining #babynaps how to sleep train baby

You have to try this method ⬇️ I knew I wanted to sleep train my son but wasn’t quite sure how, especially since I didn’t want to do the cry it out method. So I had seen some other methods and decided to tweak them a bit and it worked amazingly! It only took my son 4 days to be completely sleep trained but it may take up to a week. ✨ So if you are wanting to sleep train your child I would highly recommend trying this! 👌🏻 Day 1️⃣: Have a wind down routine of a book, sleep sack, cuddles then put your baby in their cot and if they cry pat their bum until they stop then take your hand away and continue this until they fall asleep. Do this for all naps and sleeps for one day.💤 Day 2️⃣: Repeat day one. Make sure they have white noise and their comforters. ☁️ Day 3️⃣: Put your baby down in their room and leave for 5 minutes. This gives them the chance to settle themselves but without leaving them for too long. Then go in and pat their bum (don’t get them out of the cot) until they are settled and then leave again. Continue this until they are asleep. The longest it ever took my son to fall asleep was 25 minutes. If they are settling at the end of the 5 minutes just leave them, but if they are quite upset and need reassurance go in and comfort them. 🤍 Day 4️⃣-7️⃣: Repeat day 3 until you are simply just putting your child down, walking out of the room and they are putting themselves to sleep. 🛏️ This worked really well for us and my son is now 2 years old and since we sleep trained him we have never had problems with him putting himself to sleep. 🐻 #sleeptraining #mumtips #sleeptips #mums #babies #toddlers #babysleep #babysleeptips #sleeptrainingsuccess

🥱 Sleep training your toddler IS NOT that hard… Odds are if your kid is not sleeping well youre probably thinking “eventually they’ll just get better” but nope! Studies show it’s best to have them learn to sleep on their own and some kids don’t sleep as good as others. There’s a lot of great sleep methods out there, and we try them all, but personally — THE CHAIR METHOD worked beautifully! Months have gone by and she’s sleeping for 10-12hrs, all night! This won’t work for everybody, if you tried something else, leave a comment below to help out your fellow parent 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼 Stay strong humans. . . #sleeptraining #toddlerhacks #sleeptips #parentinghacks #parents

1. You do not have to sleep train. It is an individual choice. But if you are struggling, it is a safe and evidence supported option. 2. Timing matters. If you try before your child is developmentally ready you will call it failure when it was just too early. 3. If sleep training caused trauma, we would see it years later. We do not. Long term studies show no differences in attachment, emotional wellbeing, or stress response. 4. If you are not ready to sleep train, do not start. Starting and stopping sends mixed messages and makes it harder for everyone. You need readiness and consistency. 5. This may be the first skill you are actively teaching your child. It is learning, not abandonment. 6. A rested parent is a safer parent. Your exhaustion is not a requirement of good motherhood. 7. Every parent should choose what works for their family. There is no evidence that sleep training is the only right way. And there is no evidence that it harms babies. Let’s stop judging one another for making different choices. From a personal standpoint, sleep training saved me. It is not for everyone, and it does not need to be. But we should acknowledge the truth: the data do not show harm. If this is something you choose for your family, you are allowed to do it without guilt. #pediatrics #parenting #sleep #sleeptraining #babysleep

Sleep training a 4 month old to nap in the their cot or self
15,409

Sleep training a 4 month old to nap in the their cot or self-settle is a lot like forcing a caffeine fuelled squirrel to sleep. 🐿️ 4-6 month olds are going through huge amounts of development and this may naturally interfere with sleep. Is this to say you shouldn’t or can’t make improvements? Of course not! If you don’t sleep train within this window, will this have a negative impact? Heck no! 🌟 Where does this narrative around sleep training 4-6 months old come from? It’s often described as a “window of opportunity” and I think this is largely due to what we expect from the 4 month sleep regression. We’re told not to create bad habits during this time, to establish good sleep habits now so they don’t come to expect x,y,z. However, if this is a genuine need for comfort, should we not be meeting that need? 🤔 How about meeting that need in a manageable way? 🙋🏽 🌟 I remember soooo well trying to do all the things I ‘should’ do to get my 4 month old sleeping better. I remember the pressure, the stress, the anxiety and sense of failure when it didn’t work. Did I do it wrong? Heck no! If I knew then what I know now, I’d have let it all go and placed my efforts elsewhere. 🌟 Here’s what I’d have done differently: 👉🏿 optimised feeds. 4 month olds are curious and easily distracted. A feeding necklace and feeding in a dark room can be helpful. 👉 ditch the sample schedule and work around my baby’s unique sleep needs 👉🏽 introduce multiple, manageable sleep cues 👉🏾 adjust sleep needs and naps 👉🏻 practise cot settling with 0 expectation of it working 😂 🌟 If you want to or have sleep trained within this age, there’s 0 judgement from me. However, if you’ve tried leaving your baby to self settle or been practising crib 60/70/80 (whatever it’s called!) to no avail, please do not despair! Your baby just isn’t ready for THAT. But they could be ready for something else. If you’re ready to find out what that something else is, drop me a DM for a friendly chat. 🌟 #babysleeptips #infantsleep #responsiveparenting #babysleep #sleeptraining #4monthold #6monthold #sleepconsultant

Sleep training was one of the best decisions we made for our family. By day four Kai fell asleep on his own and slept through the night in his own room. 🥹 It gives your baby a healthy sleep habit and gives you back the rest you need to show up for them. I wanted to share my journey because so many mums feel guilty for sleep training. And I really want to change that. I do recognise it’s not for everyone and that’s okay! But if you’ve been wanting to try, 💭 comment SLEEP and I’ll send you our step by step guide! 💕 Jia
