“Hundred Dollar Bill” by Lana Del Rey comes from her early, pre-Born to Die phase, when she was still experimenting with identity, sound, and storytelling. Sonically, it blends jazzy piano loops, hip-hop beats, and a smoky, lounge-like atmosphere that hints at the cinematic style she would later refine. Even at this stage, you can hear her fascination with Americana—money, glamour, and morally ambiguous relationships. The line “Jimmy pull up…” reflects one of her recurring narrative devices: creating characters who exist in a world of crime, desire, and fleeting luxury. “Jimmy” is not necessarily a real person but a symbolic figure—often interpreted as a lover tied to danger or fast money. what does an LFO do? here’s a non-technical explanation i made for no reason. synth stuff all being named with acronyms (in this case, low frequency oscillator) is a fine way to describe what is actually happening sonically, but it can be tough for people to wrap their minds around until you really get used to synthesis. anyway, if you see the letters LFO on your synthesizer or in your music software and weren’t totally sure what it was, now you know what it does. go try it :)
