It is with profound sadness that We,the Local 282 Executive Board announces the passing of our Brother and friend Augie Conti. August Luigi Conti, a cherished son, father, brother, and friend, passed away on January 22, 2026, in Old Bridge, NJ, after a brief illness. Born on February 3, 1974, in Staten Island, NY, he was a beacon of joy to all who knew him throughout his 51 years of life. August grew up in Staten Island, where he formed enduring friendships and discovered his diverse passions. He moved to Old Bridge, NJ in 2012 where he has resided since. A proud member of Teamsters Local 282 for 24 years, August was respected for his dedication and work ethic, and he forged lifelong friendships with his union family. He will be sorely missed by countless Family and friends. We have included the information for his viewing services in this post. BLACKLISTED: In September the Knoxville Symphony invited me to their blind audition for Principal Clarinet, which I won by unanimous vote. Two days later their CEO called and refused to hire me, citing my ousting from the Nashville Symphony six years ago for resisting DEI as the reason, and instead gave the job to my runner-up, an obvious DEI hire who’s still in college. In response I sued the Knoxville Symphony two weeks ago for a year’s salary plus $25k for the 100 hours I spent practicing for the audition. This isn’t just about money though, it’s also about pushing back against these symphony CEOs who continue to put race and politics above merit and skill. Someone has to save our symphonies from being sacrificed on the altar of “diversity” and no one is better positioned to do it than me. Wish I didn’t have to do it but I’m doing it anyway. I was excited to take the stage with the Knoxville Symphony but instead I’ll see them in court. Some sad news today ! My magnificent Rooster George unexpectedly passed away , my guess is maybe a snake as he was the picture of health yesterday. I’m normally pretty impervious to death when it comes to chickens but this one hurts .
