My brother Bodi is 32, Autistic level 3 with very high support needs. Bodi is non verbal, but he isn't quiet, he makes lots of sounds and vocalisations and Bodi has challenging behaviours. This is profound Autism. Bodi needs full assistance with all of his daily living needs and activities from the moment he wakes, which is regularly as early as 1am, until he falls asleep at night. This includes but isn't limited to toileting, showering, shaving, teeth brushing, wound management from self injurious behaviour, dressing, navigating his technology (TV, ipad, DVD player etc), mealtimes and feeding, medication, getting into and out of the car, accessing the community safely in his wheelchair, being hoisted off the floor due to a fall. Bodi has a severe valgus knee deformity from years of intense rocking behaviours directly related to his Autism, this makes him an extreme falls risk, he also has Osteoporosis and Dysphasia. Autism is a permanent and lifelong disability. Bodi's support needs are complex and have continued to increase greatly as he's gotten older. #profoundautism #autism #disability #specialneeds #nonverbal

I also had been working on phasing this activity chair out.. but on days when she’s already spunky like this, the chair becomes the safest option for both of us. Some don’t like our open down to earth nature in sharing Daniel’s bathroom routine. I think there’s a part to this life when you’re the one living it. That makes certain topics not so private. We’ve learned to talk about everything because it’s important and there’s no shame in it. There’s no shame in using diapers or whatever you need to use to care for yourself. It’s important to share the true realities so others feel less alone. Changing Daniel’s diaper isn’t something I want to do. It’s the sh💩ttiest part of the job. This is Severe Autism! Omg regardless of how bad he was we still miss Kaden more than anything in this world! But we don’t miss moments like these! This is the reason why we have to be patient on him getting better! Nexus Children’s Hospital is getting him better but before Nexus we went through this constantly with him everyday several hours a day! He is getting better everyone and that is all that matters!!!!❤️❤️❤️ We are still working on building his sensory room and we cannot wait to show it to you all!!! Please continue to pray for Kaden!!! This video is from 6 years ago. Julia was 3. Her official diagnosis is Level 3 Nonverbal Autism with Sensory Processing Disorder. She is a sensory seeker. She seeks out things to get sensory input. There were many, many, many times she would do this, especially during a meltdown - and it was rarely in carpet. She didn’t care if it was hardwood, tile, or concrete. She did it enough to the point I was concerned and asked her doctor about it. He reassured me that, thankfully, her knees were cartilage at that time! This isn’t about pointing fingers. It’s about noticing what’s missing. Accessibility often stops at babyhood, but disability doesn’t. Children grow. Bodies change. Needs remain.
