UPDATE: Our rescued spider monkey is improving ❤️🐒 still weak, but getting stronger every day 🌿 #AnimalRescue #SpiderMonkey #WildlifeRescue

A spider monkey just strolled up to me like we were old friends and immediately started negotiating for my banana. 😭🐒 No fear, no hesitation, just straight confidence. via @penhaligan #Pubity #Viral #Animals #Funny

Traveling up the Manu River with @rainforestflow , our team spotted an exhausted spider monkey barely treading water, on the verge of drowning. It’s unclear how she ended up in the river—perhaps she jumped in while fleeing a predator, or fell from the canopy. This is the remote Amazon, and intervening to save an animal’s life can be a controversial move in some circles. Still, our boat captain cut the motor and drifted toward the monkey. I grabbed a long pole and extended it to her. She was terrified and visibly exhausted, letting out a desperate cry as she grabbed the pole with her arm, reinforcing her grip with her tail. We drifted to the riverbank and, for a brief moment, locked eyes, before she shot up the embankment and disappeared into the forest. Safe, for now. . . . #ngia #amazonrainforest #peru #manu

They move through the jungle like gravity is just a suggestion… The spider monkey is one of the most acrobatic animals in the rainforest—and honestly, watching one climb feels like watching a parkour expert with no fear of falling. What makes them so unique is that their tail works almost like a fifth hand. Not just for balance… for actual gripping. They can hang their entire body weight from it while reaching for food, swinging between branches, or casually moving through the treetops like they own the place. And the craziest part? The underside of that tail has a bare patch that works kind of like a fingertip for extra grip. Nature really looked at monkeys and said, “What if we gave this one built-in rope equipment?” Honestly, if humans had tails like that, ladders would be obsolete. Would you trade your hands for a tail if it meant climbing like this? Tag someone who’d definitely try swinging from trees 😭 #SpiderMonkey #MonkeyFacts #AnimalFacts #WildlifeFacts #NatureFacts RainforestAnimals AmazingAnimals DidYouKnow AnimalKingdom NatureIsAmazing WildlifePhotography PrimateFacts JungleLife ExplainingAnimals EarthFacts NatureLovers AnimalReels CrazyNature

Azules update! This rescued spider monkey has left the Zoo for her new home 🐒❤️ Oakland Zoo worked with the Wildlife Confiscations Network (WCN) and the AZA Species Survival Plan to move Azules to an appropriate social group at a WCN participant institution. Nearly all trafficked spider monkeys are part of ongoing legal investigations, so at the moment, we are unable to share where her new home is located, but we are proud to have provided essential care before Azules left to join her new troop. 📸 : Keeper Nikki

Jake the black headed spider monkey wasted no time ripping into this enrichment puzzle! Food is presented in a variety of ways to the two black headed spider monkeys to provide novelty and elicit natural behaviors while still being sensitive to each individual's needs. Candy being older for example, does not always want to work as hard for her food as Jake but she is always willing to be handfed during a training session instead! While feeding times may vary, the spider monkeys are often getting a lunch sometime between 12-1pm which can be a great opportunity to watch them forage through their enrichment! #AZA #Zoo #Humboldt #JakeTheSpiderMonkey #EndangeredSpecies

Ollie understood the assignment. 🐒💺 Our black-handed spider monkey knows how to enjoy a slow afternoon, kicking back in his favorite chair with a little lounge and sway. Can you blame him? Summer vibes are strong in the primate area. Enrichment like this helps Ollie move, explore, and relax in ways that support both his body and mind. . . . #CentralFloridaZoo #SpiderMonkey #MonkeyMoments #AnimalEnrichment #ZooCare

A viral video from Mexico shows a monkey, believed to be a spider monkey, casually entering a hotel every day, helping itself to breakfast, and then calmly walking out, as if it were a regular guest. The unusual routine has amused guests and gained widespread attention online, with many calling it a “breakfast bandit.” While the incident appears humorous, experts caution that such behavior highlights how wildlife can become accustomed to human environments, which may pose risks for both animals and people if not managed properly. 📍 Mexico 🌍World News Follow @dailyworld.at for verified global updates.

As we say goodbye to 2024, we look back on all of the amazing memories the year brought us. So many people walked through the Zoo’s gates and made memories to last a lifetime with their friends and family. They fed a giraffe, climbed with spider monkeys, saw a cheetah run, learned something new about an endangered species, and discovered a love of the natural world. We also welcomed new residents in 2024: Percy the Penguin, Maya the spider monkey, Juniper, Spruce and Cedar the red panda triplets, and Dan the giraffe. It’s been a year of growth, connection and memories made. Looking forward to doing it all again in 2025! We’ll see you all at the Zoo in the new year 🥳

Obsessed with the helium sped up voice in this video. You’re welcome. I took two weeks to post this because after I had this miraculous experience with a baby spider monkey in Mexico, my partner called our friend who is high up in the infectious disease world and after hearing from her I was terrified I had contracted dengue fever. Alas, I haven’t. The little nibbles were avoidable and like the little play that Griz and I do with a toy. All that to say, don’t do this, but watch it comment, like, subscribe to my nonexistent channel.

Making friends ain’t always easy but having food definitely makes it a lot easier😅 This spider monkey just took my food and left👀 I feel like I was robbed but that’s just the way it goes sometimes😁 These guys are incredibly agile and watching them move around is astonishing🤩 They’re jumping from branch to rope and balancing themselves like it was a walk in the park🤯 Such an incredible animal and that strong tail of theirs is basically an extra limb they use for everything and can even hang themselves from it🤯
