Worrell becoming the first person to ride Disneyland’s newest attraction at the time: Splash Mountain. In true Ernest fashion, the program followed him as he trained and psyched himself up to take on the thrilling log flume ride, delivering plenty of slapstick laughs along the way. But what really stands out, 35 years later, is that he did it with no safety restraints — a detail that feels downright shocking by today’s standards. At the time, Splash Mountain was a massive deal. Combining catchy music, animatronic storytelling, and a giant drop finale, it quickly became a Disneyland favorite. But fast forward to today, and that original ride is no longer around. In May 2023, Splash Mountain officially closed its gates to make way for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, a new reimagining inspired by The Princess and the Frog.
