It was a special day here on campus as we, at long last, opened the doors and formally dedicated our new building addition. We were blessed to be joined by the Very Reverend Christopher Gray, (who was present for our first building dedication when we opened our schools in 1999), as well as Father Paul, Father Sasa, Father Michael Augustine, students, faculty, friends, and families. As a Catholic school, it was very fitting that the first use of the Sam and Aline Skaggs Theater was to celebrate Mass. We look forward to the use of all of our new spaces to continue carrying out our mission of educating the whole person: mind, body, and spirit. O ‘umro d-zabno is een hymne geschreven door de heilige St. Jacob van Sarug en bestaat uit 22 strofen (of coupletten), maar waarvan 7 strofen helaas verloren zijn gegaan. St. Jacob van Sarug is een van de belangrijkste heiligen en dichters binnen de Syrisch-orthodoxe traditie. De hymne is eigenlijk een klaaglied gericht aan de wereld en al haar verleidingen die ons laten afdwalen van God. St. Jacob benadrukt dat het aardse leven slechts tijdelijk is en dat de ware bestemming van onze zielen in het hemelse ligt. Het aardse is slechts materieel, waardoor we ons niet moeten laten afleiden van ons ware doel: in communie leven met God. De mens heeft echter een zondig karakter, zodat berouw noodzakelijk is om weer in communie te zijn met God. De hymne laat ook duidelijk zien dat we uiteindelijk allemaal verantwoording moeten afleggen bij onze Schepper, wat een verwijzing is naar 2 Korinthiërs 5:10 (“Want wij moeten allen voor de rechterstoel van Christus verschijnen, zodat ieder van ons krijgt wat hij verdient voor wat hij in zijn leven heeft gedaan, of het nu goed is of slecht”).
