Lots of lower-body strength, stability, and making sure I mastered each step before moving to the next 👇 ‌ Here’s how I progressed: ‌ 1️⃣ Single-leg squats on a bench (both feet on the way up) Use the bench for support — this builds balance and control early on. ‌ 2️⃣ Single-leg squats on the way down (single-leg up) Focus on lowering slowly and staying stable through your core and knee. ‌ 3️⃣ Weighted single-leg squats on a bench Hold a light plate or dumbbell at your chest to help balance and add resistance. Make sure to keep your shoulders rolled down and back away from your ears. ‌ 4️⃣ Lower the surface for your bench Start higher, then work your way down over time. Use both legs to stand until you can control it on one. ‌ 5️⃣ Band-assisted pistol squat Anchor a band from above — use just enough support to help on the way up. ‌ 6️⃣ Box tap pistol squat (tap, don’t sit) Stay tight and drive through your heel. Keep tension the whole time. ‌ 7️⃣ Full pistol squat 👊 Control the descent, extend your free leg forward, and stand tall. ‌ If you can’t yet do a full pistol, don’t worry — use these progression steps to gradually build the movement so you’re not forcing it.
