🌊🚆 COLOSSAL WAVES IN DAWLISH 🚆🌊 Here’s another video from my time on Rockstone Bridge (Black Bridge) in Dawlish this morning at the early stages of Storm Ingrid at high tide. The storm surge created some colossal towering waves and spray this morning as it collided with the old sea wall and utterly drenching a couple of passing trains. Climate change - it’s real and it’s already here. I went to survey the damage caused by storm Ingrid at Torcross yesterday. Almost every property was damaged - windows smashed, walls pushed down and broken by the waves, roof tiles blown off. The road was a mess - but hopefully can be cleared. Fingers crossed no serious damage will be found under the shingle and debris. The power of the wind and waves is staggering - and we are going to see more of this as storms become more frequent and intense. It was great to see and talk to members of the local community who were all pulling together to help repair the damage, and still in good humour despite the wind and rain! As I drove down to Torcross I listened to the news - deadly landslides in Indonesia, unbearable heat in Australia and a storm bringing unheard of cold temperatures to the US this week. There can be no doubt that climate change is going to wreak havoc, and I fear our government is turning a blind eye to the inevitability of it. Which is why I asked the Cabinet Office last week what they are doing to inform everyone of how to prepare for an emergency - like the Dutch government has recently done. And I’m calling on the government to support a national televised screening of the National Emergency Briefing I attended before Christmas. Everyone needs to understand the reality of what is coming down the track, and how we can respond, adapt and mitigate the worst of it.
