If you think you have a hamstring injury, get it checked early. The first step is working out what you have actually injured. Is it a muscle belly strain or a tendon or muscle tendon junction injury? They heal very differently. Next is assessing how much strength you have lost. A power deficit tells us how serious the injury really is and how aggressive rehab needs to be. This is what drives the whole plan. Without this, people guess. They rest too much or too little. They return too early. And they re injure it. Early assessment means: A clear diagnosis A clear timeline And a clear rehab plan So you can get back to your sport properly. And not keep going round in circles. Hamstring rehab often breaks down before treatment even begins. In this Investigating Injuries webinar, Dr. Daniel Stewart is joined by Abhishek Nayak and Abhijna Satvik (@invictusperformancelab) to break down hamstring strain assessment, testing, and progression using a structured, evidence-based approach. You’ll learn how to: • Identify involved structures and strain types • Apply practical ROM and strength testing • Progress loading with eccentrics and neuromuscular control • Set clearer return-to-sport criteria to reduce re-injury If hamstring injuries are part of your caseload, this is a session worth watching. 🎥 Watch the full webinar free on demand. Early stage hamstring strain rehab ✔️ Round 1 of local footy / winter sports isn’t far round the corner. And you know what that means… Hamstring strain season is nearly here Here are a few exercises (and progressions) I might prescribe someone with an acute hamstring tear. Very different approach to someone with hamstring overload and mechanical sensitivity. Early management is about optimal loading, and avoiding complete rest. Research from Jack Hickey (2020) and the team at ACU shows that we can have good outcomes using up to 4/10 pain threshold for early stage hamstring rehab exercises It is also important to maintain an athletes acute / chronic workload ratio, especially in-season. So keeping them moving with lateral based movements (e.g side shuffles, grapevine) is a good way to keep up workload, as well as low speed jogging

Speed exposes weakness, which is why some hamstring rehabs might fail. End stage rehab should target these qualities too. #hamstring #hamstringrehab #returntosport #sportphysio

Your hamstrings don’t just move your knee. They don’t just move your hip. They do both, often at the same time, under load, at speed, and for thousands of reps. That’s why rest alone doesn’t fix hamstring injuries. Recurring hamstring pain usually sticks around because of missing pieces, not because you’re “tight” or “getting old.” Common reasons hamstring injuries never fully resolve: - Incomplete rehab after the initial strain - Poor core and pelvic control - Weak or underperforming glutes - Imbalances between hip flexors and hamstrings - Overstriding or limited hip extension - No exposure to speed, acceleration, or change of direction before returning to sport Endurance athletes, sprinters, soccer players, and trail runners are especially vulnerable because hamstrings must tolerate: ✔ High force ✔ High speed ✔ High repetition Without a true return-to-run / return-to-sport plan, the hamstring becomes the weak link again. The goal isn’t just to get pain-free...it’s to build capacity, tolerance, and confidence so the injury doesn’t keep reappearing. 👇 Have you dealt with a recurring hamstring issue before? 💬 Drop your questions in the comments 📩 DM us if you want help getting back to sport without setbacks 👍 Like & follow for more endurance injury education from Endurance Unleashed #HamstringStrain #EnduranceUnleashed #ReturnToSport #InjuryRecovery #RunHealthy #SmartRehab #EnduranceAthletes

Hamstrings are the most common injury in field sports worldwide. Re-injury rates sit around 20–30%. At the same time, sport keeps getting faster. And the hamstring works harder the faster you go. Higher speed. Higher demand. Same old rehab model. That gap is where injuries keep happening.

Early-stage hamstring rehab isn’t about stretching or avoiding load. It’s about introducing the right amount of stress to restore tolerance and confidence without flaring symptoms. These movements focus on: • isometrics • short ranges • controlled loading • respecting symptoms This is where you start, not where you stay. If you’re in the mid stages of hamstring rehab, I will share some exercise progressions/things to work on in another video. 👉 Save this if you’re rehabbing a hamstring 👉 Share with someone dealing with a recent strain

Hamstring pain? Read this. If your rehab starts and ends with stretching… don’t be surprised when the strain comes back. At Arsenal Performance & Rehabilitation, Day 1 isn’t about babying the hamstring. It’s about applying the right stress to create adaptation. Because hamstrings don’t fail from being “tight.” They fail from not tolerating load at length and speed. Here’s what we focus on early: ✔️ Isometric loading to calm pain while building capacity ✔️ Progressive lengthened hamstring strength ✔️ Hip extension power ✔️ Sprint-mechanics progressions (when appropriate) Traditional PT: “Let’s stretch it.” Us: “Let’s make it stronger where it actually matters.” Short-term relief is easy. Resilient tissue takes strategy. DM us “HAMSTRING” if you’re tired of re-straining the same spot and want to actually fix it.
