Listen carefully 👇 Firstly, let’s point out one thing. What Kate Douglass is able to do better than others, is making sure that each stroke builds upon the other. A common mistake people make especially during the longer breast events, is they focus too much on DPS (distance per stroke). DPS is great but only to an extent… If you are left doing ultra long strokes, you might find yourself starting each stroke with no momentum, with no starting speed whatsoever. We see here that Kate is able to swim at a rather high stroke rate, while still maintaining good DPS. This is because each stroke builds upon the other in the sense that the second she starts to lose momentum from the kick, she goes straight onto the next stroke. This helps build momentum throughout the length as each stroke already has a starting speed and then she is able to keep adding and adding more and more speed on top of that. This is part of the reason as to why Kate is so good on the LC 200 breast. Now this would only be possible if she is fast and explosive above the water, which she is. We see that she doesn’t spend much time above the water breathing and instead shoots her arms fast and takes a very quick breath. This helps her hips maintain an optimal high position in the water. Furthermore, if you pay attention to her glide from above the water, you can see the ripples that are created because of her high body position. Her body position is just slightly under the water surface which ensures maximal efficiency as she is able to get up and over the wave rather than having to fight through the wave. Many people have a very low body position in breaststroke which is why they are left fighting the water, fighting the wave, rather than riding it and getting over it. We can learn a lot from Kate Douglass’ stroke but if there’s one takeaway from this video, it’s that you need to stop focusing on ultra DPS and focus more on enhancing your stroke rate and technique so that every stroke builds upon the other. Technique! This was my stroke I raced in 20 years ago and with any exercise, if you get the technique you shouldn’t lose it. Follow my tips below if you want to learn 🏊🏻♀️ 🦋 Know when to kick, and keep feet tight together. There should be 2 kicks of the feet per stroke; one as you’re doing a keyhole shape with your arms under the water, and one when your arms come out the water to do the stroke 🦋 Keep your hips up and rhythm strong!! 🦋 Arms should do what would resemble a keyhole shape in the water before they come out wide and coming into the front at numbers 11 & 1 if it were a clock before repeating 🦋 Keep your head tucked down when doing strokes if you’re not breathing out the water, when you do breathe don’t lift your head too high and take quick breaths to keep the stroke strong so not to lose rhythm #swimmingtips #butterflystroke #trainingtips

Breaststroke timing is simple. The legs kick when the arms are in streamline and the arms pull when the legs are in streamline. Those principles remain the same across all race distances, but how they’re executed does change. What’s the biggest difference? The space between the kick and the pull changes. During longer races, swimmers will often wait until the kick has completely finished before beginning the pull, sometimes continuing to wait. In shorter races, swimmers will often begin the pull prior to the kick finishing, sometimes as soon as the main propulsive part of the stroke is complete. In longer races, swimmers may wait a split seconds after finishing the pull to recover the legs. In the sprint, it happens the instant the pull is completed. The key basic timing principles are preserved, but the urgency with which swimmers switch between different aspects of the stroke absolutely changes. The FAST acronym is a simple and effective way to recognize the signs of a stroke. It stands for Face drooping (one side of the face is drooping or numb), Arm weakness (one arm is weak or numb and drifts downward when raised), Speech difficulty (speech is slurred or hard to understand), and Time to call emergency services (if any of these symptoms are present, even if they go away, it’s crucial to call for immediate medical help). This tool helps in quickly identifying a potential stroke, enabling prompt medical intervention, which is vital for reducing the severity of a stroke and improving recovery chances. #stroke #strokesurvivor #medical #health #muaythai #doctor
