I usually don’t share about toxic study motivation, but…. This one really worked for me and I’ll tell you a story on it. When I was in primary school, I was doing horrible in a language class and my grades were pretty bad. I remember that day clearly, when my teacher took my report card and called out my name in front of the whole class of 50 students. I stood up from the back row, walked to her desk at the front of the classroom and waited for her to speak. She hit me on the head with my report card and threw it to the ground, saying something along the lines of “How can you do so badly on the previous exam?” I felt so embarrassed and hurt at the time that I never want to feel like that again. I didn’t want to be publicly shamed in front of the entire class again, so I really worked hard, just to prove to my teacher that I could do it. The next month, I received the Most Improved Student Award. A few months later, I transferred to another school and became the top of my class. Since then, I’ve stayed at the top and never looked back. I hope no teachers treat their students like how I was being treated, but if you’re a student and an adult or family member said such hurtful things to you, turn it around and use it as a motivation for improvement. That’s what I call Revenge Studying.
