Okayy spilling tea here ☕️ I know UK is not the most popular choice for Indian students because those who want to have their private setups at one point in life choose to stay in India and those who want the corporate job life usually choose US. (this is obviously a huge huge generalisation, and these choices are nuanced but that’s what’s most common) So why UK? By internship I had had a massive burnout from healthcare where I doubted if I even belong here. I found a huge mismatch between my expectations with what working in healthcare would be like and the reality of it. So I decided to consider all options and choose one that suited ME most. This is what UK offers that aligns with me ( atleast for the time being) 1. Work life balance : There’s lovely work life balance across all fields in UK, not just healthcare. The annual leaves, the bank holidays, the strong laws around work hours are all major factors. 🌸 2. Protocol based medicine: The practice is more bookish as to say in simple terms, and I would love to practice medicine as it actually is in the books 📚 3. Flexibility: There is so much flexibility around choosing specialities in UK and it’s fairly common to switch them too. I wanted to have the option of doing that if I wanted to. 4. Ummmm… Europe??? A train ride away?? I’m an explorer at heart and it has always been on the top of my bucket list to travel Europe. I would love to do that all while I learn medicine. 🧳🛣️🚂🚡🏖️🇮🇹 There are other reasons too, but I think these are the most important ones. Register for GP ( General practitioner / Doctor) its free! Search for nearest GP to me on maps, go to their website and fill in the form! 3. Open bank account! You can open online bank account with your BRP. For ex. a) Revolut b) Monzo. 4. Apply for NI number (National Insurance Number) you’ll be asked wherever you are going to work, it takes 15-20 days to arrive. Go to Gov.co.uk website and search National Insurance number, fill in the form and that’s it!
