Fun fact: The NYC Subway 1 train runs the full length of Manhattan’s West Side, from South Ferry to Van Cortlandt Park–242nd Street, along the original 1904 IRT Broadway–Seventh Avenue Line. It remains a fully local service in Manhattan, stopping at every station along Broadway. Foamer fact: From 1989 to 2005, the 1 train was paired with the 9 train in a “skip-stop” service north of 137th Street. Certain stations were served by either the 1 or the 9, but not both, to speed up commutes along the Broadway–Seventh Avenue Line.
