After Taking down my protective hairstyle (the threaded hair) i left the braids in for 4wks and I finally took down the braids!! To be honest i saw visible new growth which you can see from the video and I did retain some of it. To make my takedown process easier, i did my usual mixture and i was good to go! Remember, braids are not a one-size-fits-all solution! For clients with fine or thin edges, you may opt for creating less dense and smaller braids or even leaving out extra hair. Always choose the safer approach that will maintain the health and integrity of the hair but more importantly, communicate your concerns with your client first; as they may change their mind and want to be styled differently. Failure to communicate before implementing any changes in the style regardless of intent to protect their hair could lead to your client being dissatisfied with the result and not willing to return for future services. Here’s the best way to remove them while keeping your hair healthy: Step 1: Prep Your Hair • Moisturize First – Spray your braids with a mix of water and leave-in conditioner or a detangling spray. This helps soften buildup and makes takedown easier. • Oil Your Scalp & Braids – Lightly apply oil (such as coconut, olive, or your all-natural hair growth oil) to help loosen the braids and reduce tension. Step 2: Start from the Bottom • Begin at the ends and gently unravel each braid with your fingers. • If your hair was extended with braiding hair, locate where your natural hair ends and carefully snip the extension (leave extra room to avoid cutting your real hair). • Use a rat-tail comb or fingers to undo the braid, working your way up. Step 3: Remove Buildup & Shed Hair • Once a braid is out, finger-detangle immediately to remove shed hair and avoid matting. • If there’s product buildup or lint near the roots, gently separate the strands with your fingers or apply a bit of conditioner to break it up. Step 4: Detangle Thoroughly • After all braids are removed, detangle section by section using a wide-tooth comb or fingers. • Start from the ends and work your way up to avoid unnecessary breakage. • Apply a light leave-in conditioner if needed to make detangling easier.
