The Space Launch System just picked up a new aerodynamic upgrade. Engineers ran full-scale airflow simulations on supercomputers and validated them in Silicon Valley wind tunnels to map every pressure spike the rocket sees during ascent. The result is a pair of aerodynamic strakes mounted beside each booster. These add-on surfaces smooth crossflow, reduce ascent-induced vibration, and increase overall stability.
