I had to ask @lauramrutledge how somebody can be that successful and still deal with imposter syndrome. She said she’s had this drive for perfection in her since she was a kid… and instead of letting it break her, she used it as fuel to keep pushing herself forward. That hit me, because a lot of people think success magically removes doubt. It don’t. Sometimes the people accomplishing the most are the ones constantly questioning themselves the hardest. I had to ask @yahya how he went from wanting to be a race car 😂 not the driver… the actual car… to becoming a Hollywood actor. He said it started with a stutter. He took an acting class just to help with presentations… and that class opened up a whole new world for him. Next thing you know, he not just interested… he actually got the talent too. Crazy how life work. Sometimes what you think is a weakness end up leading you right into your purpose. I had to ask @willpowerpacker if putting the word “Black” on his work minimizes the art… or if it brings him pride. He said he creates stories for everybody. He ain’t trying to change who he is or how he’s seen. He knows the lane he occupies, he knows the audience that helped build him, and he stays true to that POV. And let’s be real… you don’t cross $1 billion at the box office without connecting with people from all different backgrounds. That’s bigger than one demographic.
