Most kids can’t truly conceptualize time until around 7–8 years old, and for kids with ADHD, this develops even later. “Five more minutes” feels completely abstract because they can’t picture what that means. That’s why transitions often end in meltdowns or power struggles. A visual timer changes that. It turns time into something more concrete and predictable, kids can SEE it disappearing. It externalizes time in a way their brains can actually process. 👀 And if you caught it in my video, I’m working on my laptop while my son does homework… that’s ✨body doubling✨. For ADHD kids (and adults!!), just having someone present helps anchor them so they can start and follow through with tasks like homework or cleaning up.
